low impact cardio and resistance training

    have a joint condition called EDS

    and it requires that I not do any sort of high impact cardio, and also do some resistance training to strengthen my muscles.
    I don't quite know what resistance training is though. I was also wondering if there's any other low impact cardio I can do in addition to cycling. I know swimming is low impact, but in the winter it's a bit cold for that. Right now I'm cycling and jump roping (which I know is very high impact, but I don't do it for very long, 10 minutes tops).
    I'd like to be able to switch up my routine every now again, so I don't feel like I'm stuck with the same things.

    An excellent form of low impact exercise is rebounding - essentially jogging, dancing or performing coreographed aerobics on a small trampoline. It maintain aerboic intensity allows you to perform hgh impact movements but without any impact. Can be done indoors and takes up little space. You cna pick up a rebounder or mini trampoline in nearly any fitness store or even argos.

    As regards resistance training this is a form of training to build muscles against weight or gravity. This can be done using weights, your bodyweight, elastic tubing etc. I cover the basic bodyweight exercises on my website isometric-training.com if you want to take a look. Each of these can be done at your own level and increase in difficulty as needed to maintain constant improvement in muscle strength and size without the risk of stressing and damaging your joints.
