CD Recycling

    Anyone know if it is ok to put old cd's into plastic recycle bin???! They are most plastic but not sure about that aluminium layer....

    My local recycling centre in Bray takes CD's separately. From an article I read in a German computer magazine years ago, I believe they're chopped into tiny little pieces and the metallic layer is then leeched out with chemicals. The remaining polycarbonate plastic is then recycled normally.

    Yeh, as Alun says, they can be recycled depending on who collects your 'green' waste. This same question was asked in November's Focus magazine.

    Does anyone know if there is a list of where CD's are recycle nationally or what County Council Green bins will accept them etc?

    I trust that this thread is about music and software cd's.
    cd's with data or photos need to be treated differently because of identity theft/blackmail/ etc
