    Minor rant..

Ok, I pre-ordered my Wii in sept, and picked it up on release day... at which stage Game on Henry St couldn't sell me anything but what I'd pre-ordered (was I naive in thinking accessories wouldn't be an issue??).

So, in the intervening period, though I haven't opened my Wii yet, I have picked up an astonishing assortment of controllers etc for it. I want to play multiplayer Wii sports, Mario Kart and bomberman, which means I now have 10 controllers.

    Yeah.

3 Wiimotes (ordered one on ebay, found Wiiplay three days later in Gamestop, duh)
3 nunchucks to go with the above (for boxing etc)
2 classic controllers (for Bomberman '93 and SSF2 when it's released)
2 Gamecube controllers for Mariokart, because there's neither a Wii-native version, nor VC version.

And I thought the wireless joy of my Wiimotes would lead to a tidier living room, but I'm afraid it'll end up looking just like my current SNES setup, wires snaking everywhere.
Also, it's now cost me as much as a PS3..

Why oh why can't GC games be played with the classic controller? It has analog sticks.. plus it'll save on wires.
AND to add insult to injury, if I want to play Goldeneye, the only workable 4-player game I've ever played, I have to get a 'real' N64 and 4 more controllers.

I'm not too keen on the classic controller... I tend to use the Wiimote itself for Bomberman. It's a great version of Bomberman actually...

You can use the Wiimote for most NES, Turbo GFX, SEGA and SNES games atm, and the GC controller for all others.

There is one button on the classic controller that I don't understand (No, I haven't read the manual) you press it in and a sort of a plastic clamp at the back of the controller activates.

From what I've read noone really knows what its for. Some sort of future add on I presume.

Or perhaps it clips to the Wiimote and can be used as a motion sensor in certain games? /shrug

In retrospect, buying the Classic controllers was a bad idea, though I had the impression that you could use them on GC games. I could have played Bomberman '93 on a sideways Wiimote easily enough, but I was on rampage that day. Got some buyer's remorse now.
That said, I can now play 5 player bomberman.. 3 wiimotes (with or without classic controller) + the 2 GC ones allegedly means I can play with everyone in the house at once. Sweet.

Now, anyone got a link to a decent 1080p 50" plasma so we can all *see* at once? :-p

Whilst on the issue, do standard n64 pads work on the wii for n64 games on the VC?

And does the gamecubes wavebird controller work for GC games?

Just wanna make 100% sure before I go on ebay

Well there are no slots on the Wii for N64 pads.
And I believe the Wave Bird still works.

N64 pads definitely don't work, and Classic Controllers don't have a rumble function, so we're out of luck on that.
Wavebirds will work if the receiver *fits* in the slot available..
They're pretty pricey on EBay too, was looking at them myself, seems they remain popular.

    My wavebird works.

Sorry if this seems like an ignorant question... but is there any sockets on the wii to take my existing gamecube controllers?

Edit : Sorry, just checked it on the Nintendo website... it does!! Ta!

The Wii comes with 4 standard GC controller ports.
