With the four main uk terrestrials now on $ky (three of them FTA) this decision sounds commercially suicidal especially considering that most Irish cablenets dont offer broadband/telephone services

BBC1/2 UTV/C4 being the four main uk terrestrials
    three of them FTA
Channel 4 is not available on FTA recievers yet

Hmmm... Given the spread of downquality programming compared with 70s and 80s I rate ALL BBC as one terrestrial and ALL ITV as one Terrestrial. It's a bit moot when Analogue is turning off and ITV has 4 to 6 terrestrials and BBC has 6 to 8 terrestrials (if you count part time channels or not)

Of course "Main" is the weasel word. If you look a channels that are original reason for deflectors, MMDS and Cable in this country, then indeed you 100% correct, we have now 3 out of 4.

I think UPC is aware of what suicide looks like which is why the master plan is not just fix cable so 100% of it offersthe WHOLE Digitla lineup, Broadband & VOIP cable Phone, but also 86K MMDS users too to all havce 120 cha + BB + phone, if you read an article in Sunday papers a few weeks back.

No mean task they have on the cable front.

How are Chorus going to improve their MMDS service anyway? They only have so much spectrum to play around with.

makes my investment in a ftv card and a rte roof aerial wise. soon as I got em I dumped chorus. why pay em 30 euro for basically half the channels they provide i can now get for nothing.
had the occassion to ring chorus customer service for my sister last week she in her wisdom went with chorus digital. took 4 attempts at calling lasting an hour to get an answer for an install date. they now cut you off after 15 minutes waiting. oh the joys of UPC and streamlinging things..

By scrapping the entire MMDS and replacing it with the NTL version which has no analogue and 120 digital channels.

IF they add BB & Phone, it will use separate spectrum as Comreg took back the extra spectrum that was at 2.5GHz (Chorus PowerNet?).
