Power My Muff

I've got an old(ish) Big Muff I've had for years, since I was but a wee sprout with a Squier. I haven't actually seen or used it in a good while as it's been in my friends house but I'm thinking of utilising it in my gigging setup. The only problem is it's got one of those dinky EHX power inputs, and I use a Boss 9v power supply. Is there any way to change the Muff's power majigger or some kind of adaptor to use?

yes, yes there is. i'll try post a picture of my Modified Muff later.

i've done a very popular mod that allows me to use a boss adapter, the ehx one was too expensive plus i already had one pedal at the time that used the boss type one.

Thanks Joe. That's exactly what I need.

if this is an original 70's/80's EH pedal don't modify it! your grand kids might lose quite a few quid when they're selling all your gear down the road ;)

buy a reissue and convert the jack to take a boss type maybe,or better yet just buy the EH type adapter for your original

No, no it's a reissue, I got it in about 2002.

i dont know if you can make it out very well. i bought the replacement jack in maplins, desoldered the cheapo white plastic/metal EHX jack and soldered on the new one in its place. only took a couple of minutes. to save drilling the case i just got some loctite and positioned the jack where i wanted it in the hole.

heres a pic of the outside of the muff, theres no external fixing for the jack. i tried to keep it as normal looking as possible (until i do more mods ;) )

have fun, total cost of it is approx €1.50~ if you already have soldering iron and solder. the boss adapter only costs about €25/30 and the EHX one is about €50+ afaik. so its a great saving, plus it comes in handy if you want to power a few pedals from the one boss adapter. :)

I have a Russian Big Muff which will only take a battery...

Is it just a case that I can pop off the 9V battery snap, drill a little hole and put a socket on it and solder it into the wires that were on the battery snap?

Of course it'd probably be just as handy to get an adapter to put a battery snap on the end of one of the plugs on my daisy chain...

very simple and easy to do. :) basically just get another battery clip, and put it onto the other one. solder the leads of the new clip to a jack for the powersupply in the case. drill and mount the jack, and bob's your uncle!

this is probably the best way for you to try your hand at it, its very easy to undo any work in this case, just take apart the battery clips and remove the jack.
