Does anyone have one of these? I saw one advertised yesterday and am wondering is it worth buying (approx. €100)? I presume that it will allow you tune in the Free To Air channels that are available with sky digital i.e BBC 1, 2, 3, 4, News 24 ITV 1, 2, 3 to name a few (the tuning frequencies are on here somewhere) but will it work the same? Considering that the frequencies offered on this site for the FTA channels relate to tuning it through your satellite receiver, will the USB aerial tune it from the web?

It won't decode the sky signal AFAIK. You need to pay sky money to do that, was it advertised on an Irish Channel? You won't pick up freeview channels in Ireland unless you are near the border. What do you mean tune from the web.... no tv station broadcasts live on the net, you can stream certain news items/programmes but not live.

It sounds like a product for sale in the north.

I think you have a couple of technologies mixed up there.

FTA = satellite, so you need a satellite dish to plug into the USB stick.

Do you have a link or a make/model number?

It was advertised in yesterdays news of the world - no I didn't buy that rag but was flicking through it and saw the add on the gadgets page advertised in euro. I'll have a look this evening and get the model name etc.

FTA = Free to Air can be Satellite or Terrestrial

But any way Tom is right you haven't given enough info

ie. is it Analog or Digital, Satellite or Terrestrial

If its for digital Terrestrial then you are unlikely to get the English BBC's and ITV (Depends on where you live in the country.

If its for Analog Terrestrial then you can use it to watch the irish channels only.

If its for Digital Satellite then you can receive the BBC and ITV channels
    (provided you have a dish)

IF its Analog Satellite then you can receive none of the english or Irish channels.

Frequencies used for Terrestrial and Satellite are very different

Check out the icdg forum for more information

Looks like it's analogue and DVB-T.

You will be able to plug your Sky/NTL/Chorus box into this device and watch TV that way. That means plugging it out of your TV and into your computer, unless you get a second Sky/NTL/Chorus box.

You may also be able to get RTE1/2/TV3/TG4 via rabbits ears, but you need a fairly strong signal to get a decent picture on the computer.

DVB-T officially doesn't exist in Ireland, but there are some trials ongoing and you *may* be able to get a signal. Again, it depends on where you live.
