    ... and I love it !

    Some things I have learned:

    - there's an article on Microsoft.com about how to get XP-Pro to automatically log in
    - disable the power-saving on the USB ports, otherwise MCE loses track of the IR blaster and isn't able to schedule recordings
    - you need to have a DVD player/software installed for MCE to work - Intervideo's player comes free with a lot of systems, and is fine. Nvidia's Purevideo is $60 but handles 5.1 and DTS properly - although there's an incompatibility with the PAL version of Purevideo and Webguide4 that prevents Webguide from playing/streaming video.
    - install Webguide4 - it will let you look at your MCE Guide over the web, check on recordings, schedule recordings, playback recordings, and stream live TV. And best of all it's free !! http://asciiexpress.com/webguide/WebGuide4/tabid/60/Default.aspx

Some functions I wish MCE had:

    - a way to folderise my recordings - at the moment they're in one big list, I would love to be able to categorise them by "keep forever", "scifi", "motors" or whatever
    - better search functionality - "myTV" lets you search the Guide on keyword, etc, but it would be great if you could automatet that. Eg, if it knew to look out for "Hitchcock" as a keyword, and alert you when it sees that enter the Guide
    - a reminder function - MCE lets you schedule recordings, so long as they don't overlap. But I would like it to let me set reminders without recording (so that I can pop the TV over to the antenna, for example, while MCE is recording something else off the digibox
    - be able to use dual tuners - MCE will only allow two tuners with the same source; it won't let me use the NTL digibox on one tuner and the VHF aerial on the other.

There you go. MCE has revolutionised the way I watch TV - I get to watch what I want and when. I have not had to watch an advert for two weeks, and boy does that feel great ! Picture quality on my Acer 32" LCD is superb. Luvvin' it

That WebGuide is pretty neat though I have no real use for it myself I wonder why it has a problem with Purevideo it's just an MPEG-2 decoder. They do mention transcoding so perhaps whatever they are doing on the fly conflicts with Purevideo in some fashion.

I would have a look around some of the plugin sites and see if anything fits the bill with the other outstanding issues.

In regards the recorded TV/folder management there is this but I have not used it myself it looks like it runs outside of MCE though. More TV seems also worth a look at & more of what your after.

In regards the recording from ariel and STB there is a thread on TGB that covers this though it looks fairly complicated.
