Signature question

Apparently some mod has changed my signature preventing me from advertising my website. I think that was rude because I should at least get a PM with the links of my posts that ticked that mod off. I thought I could have anything in my signature I wanted. Why must the mods be against that? Can someone please tell me what I was doing wrong? Thank you.

P.S. If the mod who changed my signature deigns to reply to this question, please point out my offending posts so I can be careful in the future.

We, as in quite a few Mods have come to the conclusion that the only reason you are leaving 'questionable' comments around this site is to advertise your website.
The Boards Admins sometimes turn a blind eye to a bit of subtle advertising in a sig if the poster has something to say or is helpful to other members on this site.
You on the other hand, have little to say and saw fit to push the boundries with regards to posting more than one link in your sig and choosing your nickname in order to advertise further.
Advertising costs on this site and you have been getting away with it, free of charge, for far too long.
I deleted your sig, you re-instated it so Talliesin posted those comments in your sig.

    Apparently
Not apparently, obviously. We can all see it.
    some mod
    That would be me
has changed my signature preventing me from advertising my website. I think that was rude
I think it's rude of you to steal from this website.
I think it's rude of you to post crap in every single post you've ever posted.
I'm not even sure why it is I didn't just siteban you.
because I should at least get a PM
If a mod PMs you about something they are doing you a favour. I didn't feel inclined to do you a favour.
I thought I could have anything in my signature I wanted.
You are clearly not thinking very hard.

Let's take your case of "anything in my signature I wanted". Do you really think we'd let you put the entire text of the collected works of Shakespeare in there? Or the whole Star Wars trilogy converted to a 800X600 animated gif? Or hard-core pornography?

No. Clearly your "anything I want" idea doesn't fly.

However, we do turn a blind eye to subtle adverts by genuine posters who make genuine posts on occasion.

This means there would be the odd post that didn't piss lots of people off for being postcount++ nonsense.
P.S. If the mod who changed my signature deigns to reply to this question, please point out my offending posts so I can be careful in the future.
This is the first post I've seen from you that isn't postcount++.

Posts are not postcount++ if they actually address something, have something original to say, have some humour (on appropriate forums) or otherwise give value.

"Apples are good for you. Sweetness and sugar is bad for you." is postcount++ because we also went to primary school and saw programs like Sesame St. Playschool or for the next generation of posters yet to be old enough to register yet, Barney.

Telling people that something which doesn't require a lot of effort will result in fewer headaches is postcount++ no matter what the forum, thread or topic. (The post in question was about watercooling, but it doesn't actually matter - the fact that it doesn't actually matter is precisely the problem).

Now postcount++ posts do not get you banned or warned (except on PI, though even then you can write a postcount++ post and get away with it by writing like a moronic pundit on Oprah with pointless truisms).

But if you're asking us to turn a blind eye to your advertisements you have to become a damn sterling poster.

Here's a conversation that happens in modsville regularly:

Mod 1: [User] is advertising [product/service/website] in his sig.
Mod 2: Let him, he posts some kick-ass stuff in [forum] and has struck me as particularly useful in [forum2].

This conversation has never taken place with "DublinEvents" as the user in question.

Rather we get reports from users saying "What is the point of this? Is he just trying to get his sig read more?"

Advertising is not a right. You can pay for a banner advert or you can become such a valued poster that we bend the rules for you.

You are free to change your signature from what I set it to into something that isn't an advert though.

We have no problems with users linking to their personal websites in their sigs. What we do have a problem with is links to commercial websites in sigs.

We have allowed links to commercial sites where the user makes a useful contribution typically by offering "expert" advice to the forum users and the link to the commercial site is discrete, ie a single link - this is an example of an acceptable commercial link

    I hope this helps.

Dublin Events sent a pm and this was my reply:
    Hi Dublin Events

As a subscriber to boards.ie you get no additional priviliges. As I posted on the thread you linked to we currently allow a discrete single link to a commercial website as long as you provide useful information to boards.ie users.

We have recieved a number of reports from boards.ie users that your posts contained little of value and appeared to be just an opportunity to get your sig noticed which contained five or six links over several lines.

To keep this simple, we do not allow unpaid advertising, you may for the moment have a single link in your sig to your website, which you may not "pimp" so your posts and replies should be genuine and not simply to promote yourself or your website, we reserve the right to remove it if we feel our goodwill is being abused or if we change our policy on commercial sigs.

If you would like to advertise we only accept banner advertising, acceptance of banner advertising will not get you any additional priviliges either.

Should any of the above be unclear, please feel free ask for clarification.

    Regards
