We are thinking of going to Paris at the end of January, we want a hotel that is a bit special/romantic but not too far away from central Paris, preferably around Boulevard Hausmann - does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, any suggestions for romantic/special resteraunts would be greatfully appreciated.

    Thanks.

I'll be able to come up with a few but Boulevard Hausmann isn't what I'd call "Romantic Paris" :) A hotel on one of the islands would be 'better' IMHO.

LIke the Hotel de Lutece :

How much are you willng to spend ?

    Try the Hotel Brighton.

Located on the Rue De Rivoli over looking the Tulleries Gardens... Haven't stayed there yet but am booked in for 2nd week in Jan.

The hotel Brighton is pretty good but in the €€€ range IMHO (fine if you can afford it:) )

Nice area, very central and has a pretty good bar :)

We have stayed near Boulevard Hausmann and St Germain the last times we were there, we want a place that has a few resteraunts near by but are open to suggestion, we do want a central location, I love the look of the Hotel de Lutec, are there many good food places near by?

It is actually a holiday just after our wedding but not our honeymoon as I am due to go for the surgery the week after and am not allowed to travel until this trip, thus it has to be a bit special. Sorry for the request for good resteraunts, I have to gain lots of weight before the surgery but also want to do a lot of walking (sorry for being so complicated), having a fitness centre or swimming pool would be a distinct advantage. We are willing to pay more for the right place.

There are loads of places to eat around that hotel. In fact, if you check the map, it couldn't be more central.

The hotel is located on the second island of Paris, just seconds from Notre Dame, which is one of the prettiest parts of the city. Though I doubt thay have a fitness romm of any sort. One option is a daily visit to a local gym (€25) or a swimming pool (€5).

The KK Cayré has a small gym and isn't too far from the St. germain area of town...

Of course if you've just won the lotto and can spend €320 a night for 2 in a 5-star hotel then there's this :

Unless you're spending up to €400 a night on your room then forget about a swimming pool. Paris's hotels are just too small for them though some of the better ones do have fitness areas.

Will you really be spending that much time over here that you'll need to go to a gym? Most tourists end up walking for miles daily in Paris :)

I am just trying to be as fit as possible for the major surgery I am undergoing, while trying to gain weight, yes, I know a slight bit of a contradiction. As I have just finished chemo the places would have to be spotless also. Thanks for your help thus far.

Well gaining weight shouldn't be to hard if you stick to certain types of meals. Generally things over here are considered 'healthy' and portions are often smaller than in Ireland. Combined with everyone walking all over the place results in the myth of the slim French woman (it's only those in Paris that seem slim).

I'm guessing that you'd much prefer that the fitness area was attached to your hotel rather than it being a public/private gym ?

Which wins, a romantic/special hotel or one with a gym ?

We stayed at The Ritz last year.
    Expensive but very worth it.
    Central too.
Superb restaurant in the Hotel but some amazing ones nearby that the very helpfull concierge will book for you.

The rooms are fantastic, with a butler and maid service at the press of a button.
Theres even a cord to pull in the bathroom and you will have the butler or the maid come to assist-a separate cord for the butler and the maid!
    The hotel is spotless.
