hp pavilion recovery HELP!!!

I have a hp Pavilion8253 that will start up with the Hp logo and then go to a blank black screen. Tech support say that I need a recovery disk which HP never provided of course so now I am u p the provebial creek. Does anyone know a solution to this blank screen or where I can download the recovery disk. Thanks

Is it a modern laptop running xp? You could download a linux "live cd" just to test the laptop see if it runs an os off a cd and the hardware is working okay. Then maybe look for a cheap xp installation disk to reinstall xp

Is it a hard disk recovery? Check the manual/supplied information.
