Did you try changing to a lower resolution and reseating the graphics card, might be some dust or something?

the graphics card should easily be able to handle that res. I have treyed reseating it aswell. I lowered the memory clock on it and everything is ok. But it should be running at 300 Mhz, not 226!!!

Do you think maybve there isnt enough power getting to the card or that the memory id overheating?

Usually those artifacts suggest overheating, but could also be driver problems or even the old integrated graphics conflicting. Do you have the lastest drivers and did you disable the on-board graphics in the BIOS prior to using the card?

    Hope this helps

It will be a conflict with a driver or overheating. But most motherboard with intergrated graphics turn off when a agp/pci/pci-e card is in place. But check the bios anyway.

YEAh I had a look through the bios and I couldnt find any way to switch off my integrated graphics.

When you put the card in did it pick it up as a vga card only?As in basic card?
If not,go to safe mode, delete existing drivers there, put in card ,reboot,it should say found vga card, then load the manufacturers drivers only,Then reboot and put any updated drivers on.
It really looks like a driver issue.Seen it loads of times before on guys computers.

    Regards,

Well theres your answer right there. The artifacting is nothing to do with drivers, its a hardware issue. It could be power, but I think most likely the RAM is toast possibly from age, overheating or a previous overclocking expedition.

Does it improve if you drop the core speed? The fans often dies on the older ATI cards so that might be worth checking too. Have you tried any stress tests on the GPU?

You dont need to disable the onboard if there are no options for it, its generally cut off electrically when the presence of an AGP card is detected. Even though the graphics were originally onboard, they are usually mounted on the AGP bus, so it has to be cut off when an AGP card is connected as the bus cannot be shared.

Yup looks like faulty ram alright, so you will have to replace it or just run at the lower clock speed.

ill try what KMb suggested when I have the time .

No i can keep the core speed at its full clock and everything is grand as long as the rams frequency is turned down. The fan is fully working . I havent tryed any stress tests , I dont really want to incase the card completely goes on me though, so i wont do that.

    yeah sounds like ram

If underclocking the RAM makes it stable, drivers are going to do SFA TBH.

Just to tell you the artifacts are not coming up when I plugg the card in without its drivers. Is that just because the card does not run at its full speed or something??? -chris

Its most likely not using the texture memory address that is failing and also as you say the display is not being accellerated.

You could reinstall the drivers and reduce the acceleration incrementally in dxdiag until the issue goes away.
