Hi all. One of my CF cards is busted. I tried reformatting in Windows but it didn't work (Windows failed to reformat, and then crashed the whole system  ). Is it for the bin? Another program I could use maybe?

Can you format it in the camera ? If not I'd try a linux machine if you have access to one.

    Hmnnn ... sounds ominous ...

Did you try formatting it in the Camera ?

Failing that ... boot the system up without the CF attached ... attach the CF ... navigate via "My Computer" to the CF card drive .... right click to open the menu ... open properties ... click the tools tab ... run check now ... follow the on screen instructions ...

Another option ... get someone with sandisk recovery tool to check it for you ... this comes free with the extreme III cards ... if you can wait until the Charleville weekend ... I'll do it for you ... assuming I am still giving you a lift ...

Nah I'm just getting a 'this card cannot be used' message in the camera (its a crap, old thing), and every time I try to do anything at all with it on the PC it crashes everything. This I'm not liking.

Why a Linux? The extra stability?

I might take you up on that Leinsterman, although its only a 32meg one and if its gonna potentially bugger anything up on you its obviously not worth it. I'm gonna be getting the DSLR (hopefully!) soon so it'll be feck all use to me anyway.

    Cheers :)

I had one before where on a machine booted into windows it couldnt read it but the same machine in linux had no problem with it all so it could be worth a shot. Course the card could always be knackered & it its just a 32mb one I wouldnt worry about it - if its for a dslr and shooting raw that would only hold a handful of pictures anyway.
