Having got my 360 today I played Gears of War in both HD and SD to compare them... HD is just beautiful. Its the first time I have got to put my LCD to the test.

Do all 360 games have HD support?

I was forced to play a few games of PES6 in SD earlier on in the week. Torture, if you're asking me. Especially after playing in HD for so long. Could barely read the text on the screen! If you haven't got HD, but have got a 360 i would give up eating and drinking and save for a HDTV.

Crap models & textures look just as crap in HD as they do in SD.

There is no comparison between GoW in SD & HD.

In contrast, there is no need for HD for the likes of Battlefield 2 or Pro Evo 6, these have graphics that would be average for the last gen.

I was in Currys today and they had a 360 hooked up to a LG TV' (same one used in the demo booths last year) Now the TV is HD ready so you would think they had it set up for HD output? Nope! They just had SCART in the back and PGR3 looked really, really bad....

HD is sooooooo much better, I could never go back to SD.

Tbh its being made out to be this big revolutionary step forward. The picture is sharper, the colour is beatiful and the level of detail and depth is great. But its not like its going to change your life in any significant way. If your into things like that, and I am, it's great but better picture quality isnt exactly the second coming of christ.

Ill put it this way. I was in a number of electronics shops with my mother and father(Their not that old btw) If I hadnt pointed out that it was HD, they would have just thinking "wow the picture quality on that tv is good". Its not like they would have walked into the shop and see something amazing in front of their eyes.

umm rumours are a floating bout hd format bein a bit of a flop

    Its far from a flop.

This all comes down to what you expect the difference to be. If you expect 'the second coming of christ' - you will be dissapointed. As you said above, its sharper, better colour, more detail and depth. Thats all.

Anyone who doesnt notice it, i consider to be blind. After watching MI3, Superman and King Kong the last few nights, in HD, the difference is huge.

I remember when i First got the 360 with the HD AV cable. I didn't notice the HD switch on the side of it for switching SD and HD. SO even tho i had the HD plugged in I wasn't seeing it at proper HD res :P not until they brought out a patch which flagged up that it wasn't switch on. When i first played it I thought man this is sweet but after I flicked the switch well lets just say i was even more impressed as well as feeling really really stupid :P

Thankfully now they have patched it so that this you cant get video out of the HD side of the av cable unless its switched.

is the component cable the only acceptable way of going HD?

i ask because i'm about to purchase a samsung tv that only has one set of component inputs, and i was hoping to run my wii through that and the xbox through another set of inputs.
are there HDMI cables for it?

Whats the point of running the wii through component? It doesn't have and HD support.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,802 ✭✭✭the corpo

cos apparently it actually looks fantastic through component, and the rgb scart and the composite cables actually look rotten on a HD screen

You can get a box that will let you have more than one connected. When you want to switch output you press a button on a remote

And its the vga input which is all you need

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,225 ✭✭✭Scruff

yeah a KVM switch that uses a button or a remote rather than a keyboard key sequence (e.g. Ctrl+Insert) to switch inputs should work fine.

    is there a hdmi lead?

thinking of picking up the dvd drive and running the whole malarkey through the hdmi input, leaving the vga free for my pc, and the component for the wii
