so i managed to nab me one of those xbox 360 bargains in tescos this morning and now have a new forum to post in, howyiz ;)

disappointed to see that, unlike the wii, the xbox isn't wireless out of the box, and needs this adapter? my router is in another room, so i ain't no choice.

the official one seems on the pricey side, anyone know of any third party ones available in town?

If you wanna get online this weekend you're probably gonna have to bite the bullet and shell out for the official one.

You probably won't get it before Christmas, but you can find some good deals for the wireless adapters online.

Another n00b to the world of 360 and I was about to post a similar question....I'm thinking of just moving the router down to the living room and getting a USB wireless adaptor for the bedroom PC.
Dunno if I can be arsed with pulling cables round the house just now though...

Thought I saw on xbox site that the 360 only works with the official adaptor but could be wrong. The reviews of the official adaptor are very good btw.

only the offical is suppose to work on usb but all ethernet wireless adapters will work, however they are still around 50-60eur and will need an extra power supply.

Only the official MS one will work via USB with the 360 but I've seen plenty of them about in the shops. It can be got for slightly cheaper from Playasia but you could well get stung for VAT when it arrives and you won't get it by xmas. Your other option would be something like this which will plug into the ethernet port of the 360 and get it onto your wireless network that way.

Hate to tell you but Harvey Norman in Blanchardstown sell the official controller for 44.99.

Anyway the official wireless network adapter is a nice piece of kit, if pricey and once working you will never notice it.

The device is an A/B/G wireless protocol compatibile so it can connect to the network at very fast speeds, and if you use your pc for streaming yu cna stream video if the bandwidth is high enough.

Here's a review of the official adaptor. Sometimes the extra € is worth it.

I completely agree, I first set mine up arount this time last year and I have not had a single problem with it, be it downloading from marketplace, playing games online or streaming media from my PC which is in a bedroom.

Plus unlike Nintendo wireless features it supports the more secure WPA wireless security protocol and not just WPA.
