What think ye of Westwood?

    Hey hey.

Recently joined westwood Clontarf. Used to go to Tony Quinn's place on Eccle street which I found excellent but if my gyms not on the way home from work I just won't be arsed going.

Anyway westwood's facility's are great but I just think the programme I've been given is appalling. The trainer pretty pathetic too.

At Tony Quinn I got a proper assesment & I was talked through a diet that suited me best. I got results too I just didn't go regularly enough - see above.

When I started @ TQ I got 6-9 introductory sessions & a 12day programme thrown in to. At westwood I got 20 minutes & no mention of diet.

I noticed in TQ when I finished the session I'd always leave the place starving - which implies I was using a hell of a lot of energy, it's not the case in westwood.

As I'd imagine I'm tied into an annual contract so I figure make the best of it.

My current programe is to do 2x leg sets 2x arm 2xchest & 2xshoulder three times each each night. At TQ I would have spent one session on arms - one on legs & one on chest. My arms would be rock hard walking out which I just felt like it was doing more good.

So anyone with similar experience @ westwood? Reckon I should stick with what the trainer prescribed or do my own thing??

I like westwood for the most part, lots of plates, a power rack. fair few benches.

Can get a bit crowded though but most busy commercial gyms do in the evening.

Saying you leave a place not being hungry and blaming it on the gym is a bit ridiculous i feel. Maybe a) you ate a lot before training, b) didn't train hard enough, c) ate just before the gym etc.

As for the routine it sounds a bit like a whole bod workout which should be fine though you didn't mention any back work. Post up the exercises listed.

One major thing westwood and pretty much any gym I can think of has over the TQ gym is that you don't get harassed into buying their sh1tty supplements or paying a fortune to see some guru in the Bahamas.

    Stick with westwood

Dont knock a gym just because the instructors arent the best. The best gyms ive found have no instructors.

Always do your own program suited to you and your goals. Everybody is different

I just joined Westwood too. I agree with you about the programme. I have no frame of reference but it wasn't very professional. I like the gym though and the facilities so i'd stick with it.

you dont sound like the type of person who needs a split program as you wont go the gym unless passing an all-by the way you need to add in back exercises-also if tony quinns helped your diet why dont you just do what they told you before instead of wanting to get the same advice twice! split programs are for people whotrain regularly so that the hit beach body part 2 times a week-best of luck...

This is because they want you to purchase a "one to one" session/sessions. then an instructor will stay with you for an hour, not sure how much these are - but in all honesty, westwood is a business aimed at making money more than being concerned with getting people into shape - which in this day in age is probably fair enough. One or two of the instructors are fairly good but from what i see they give the same routine to the majority of new members(especially the female instructors), seem good doing the spinning/aroebic stuff though. Has great facilities so thats why i go there, bit expensive though
Check out www.bodybuilding.com for routines, some good ones there along with vidoes/instructions of how to perform each exercise(and you don't have to be a bodybuilder or Arnold wannabe to use these outines). Happy training
