    Moving to laptops.

Per the laptop useless for gaming has Intel integrated graphics.

Whatever you get needs to have a GPU from either ATI or NVIDIA in it.

Well outfits like Toshiba have different ways of marketing it as such for example these are the "proper" gaming notebooks on Toshiba's US site.

If on a tighter budget your best bet is to customize a Satellite P100 and get a mid range GPU like the GeForce Go 7700 instead of the high end 7900 series.

Are you buying in the US as those Toshiba models wont necessarily be available this side of the pond.

This is the Euro page for the Satellite P100 but they are all retail only it seems but if you can locate any one of those ones with the GeForce 7600 that should do the job.

By the way you are not going to get much in terms of gaming ability and notebooks for €800 you would get far more bang per buck from a PC.

On LaptopsDirect there is a (formally IBM) Lenovo 3000 N100 notebook with a GeForce Go 7300 which is a pretty basic GPU but it will run some stuff just don't expect the latest games & the like going for €790.

You also need to tell us what kind of gaming your friend is into. If he wants to play the latest games, the laptop should at least have a 7600GT graphics chipset in it and if he loves playing at higher resolutions then it should be a 7900GS minimum. Don't know if these are available in mobile versions.

That's actually a nice deal you've sourced there for a IBM with dedicated cpu :)

also, you might find this interesting. It's a thread on notebookreview I posted with screenshots of games running on my Go7400 - a very budget but relatively capable card. Could be a good compromise, if cash isn't plentiful, usually feature in laptops around the 900-1000 mark. If you encounter it, the Ati X1400 is almost identical performance wise. The Go7300 is also similar enough, basically a lower clocked version of the Go7400.
