Does anyone else think Tipperary All Star is the choice for this one. Was given one of the coolest rides at Cheltenham last month by Ruby Walsh without touching him. If the ground stays soft I think he's be the one to pick, even with the likes of Tarlac and Victram running. Currently 11/2. Does anyone know if Ruby is taking the ride again?

Mick Fitz will be on as Ruby will be on one of Paul Nicholl's ones. We don't know how good TAS is and this is his hardest task to date. I think I'll be backing Overstrand.

i got overstrand and acambo on antepost. difficult race to decide as it is hard to pick a clear favourite

Nicholl's only has Pirate Flagship running I think.

yea your right. Halford is looking for a new jockey as Ruby is riding for Nicholl's. That's lowered my confidence

now i follow you s p jones... the horse tht im concerned about is nation state now as its pick of the weights seems to have improved race by race and has been well backed already. the horse was riden poorly last time out aswell wen it came third to overstrand and finished strongly. i might have to cover my bet with this one:)

Small stakes on the in form Nicholls yard runner for me .... although given my recent run of results I may as well chuck my cash in the Liffey.

    Keep on churning ;)

Pilca, great each way price, hopefully scudamore is on him again.
a step up in class alright but a big drop in weight.

nation state ran well at sandown after a long lay off so could run well. TAS was clobbered by the handicapper after his cheltenham win so would need to be a graded winner in waiting to win off this mark. At the prices I'll look elsewhere.

Nation State's run was definitely eye catching, he came from a different planet to get third. It was a rare occasion that one could accuse Ruby Walsh of a poor ride, the better ground will also be a major plus and he's only up a pound, must have a major chance.

Meant TAS's price was skinny, 12s nation state is perfectly acceptable!!!

any thoughts on victram seems a good price ?

one that should run well is premier dane cracking price for an e/w bet 20s

i have also done an e/w double with no refuge in the long walk at 20s

will be happy with two places but would not surprise me if premier won this

Out of its depth me thinks, one to lay

Im gonna have a nibble at Overstrand and Pirate Flagship, the former on form and the latter for the Ruby factor.

Pilca, great each way price, hopefully scudamore is on him again.

Pilca has a chance but is 8lbs wrong in the weights, and Tom Scudamore is a definite negative. I think Kings Quay is an intruiging contender, and I wouldnt rule out Tipperary All Star being one of the fancies for the SUpreme Novices. if he wins tomorrow, he will deserve to be favourite for the race.

im loading up Tipp All Star eachway! and im putting double on him to win tomorrow and to win Supreme Novices Hurdle.. 135/1! not bad eh? he is 16/1 for Supreme Novices Hurdle and 7/1 tomorrow! If he wins tomorrow he will be shortened to about 8's or 9's, anyway goodluck! common the TAS!:)

I'm really keen on Kings Quay, I've snapped up the 12/1 on Betfair as I can see him being a whole lot shorter come off time.

I've seen Pilca mentioned a couple of times in this thread, Kings Quay finished 2.5 lengths behind him at Mussleburgh conceding 16lb, he only concedes 4 tomorrow, make that 1 if you include Dougie Costello's allowance.

As for comparisons with Tipperary All Star, let's start with their flat ratings, Kings Quay was rated 8lb higher yet he gets 22lb off Tipperary All Star, if flat form is even a small indicator then Kings Quay is extremely well handicapped.

Furthermore Kings Quay finsished 19 lengths in front of a horse called Supply and Fix conceding a stone at Mussleburgh, Supply and Fix got 5 lengths closer to Tipperary All Star conceding only 8lb at Punchestown last month. This formline and the 22lb weight difference make Kings Quay look a great price at 12/1.

I think T. A. S. has too much weight to carry in such a competitive handicap.
Hope i am wrong but have a feeling he wont win.

I'm on Tarlac for this. Henderson has a decent profitable record at Ascot and is in good form overall. McCoy gets the ride with is always a big bonus (intrestingly, blindly backing McCoy at ascot produces a nice profit!). Tarlac has performed well to date, and can take a step up a bit. Top of the RPR & Topspeed ratings, he is proven on this distance too. I think he is the one to beat. I also agree that Pilca looks like the EW horse here.

any chance you heard the interview with mccoy yesterday at around 12 on attheraces?

i didn't hear it myself but afterwards the commentators were saying they would have paid good money to hear what he had just said about this race..
not sure but i believe he was building up tipperary allstars chances..
anybody know what he actually said?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,937 ✭✭✭fade2black

I think he said something along the lines of, Tarlac disappointed him not winning the Imperial Cup when he was weighted to do so and the race today is a harder one. He was basically saying that if he was having a bet he wouldn't be backing Tarlac. Although, like all jockeys he said that the horse does have a chance.

Up 24lbs in a much harder race. He's interesting but this is going to be a real test for him. As said earlier, if he does win today then he's a serious Cheltenham hope.

a nice 12/1 winner on antepost:)
