Big-Slick - Ace on flop....

I'm low paid and have a credit card bill of €2,000 and was playing in a pub game with a €3,000 top prize (€200 buy-in which almost killed me).

Anyway, I was playing well into the 10th level where the blinds were huge. Anyway, I was dealing, it was 7-handed and I get A-K. Noone had any sort of noticeable chip lead - the blinds were 40k-80k and everyone had around 1000k in chips. There was two callers before me and I raise it to 400k (5*BB). Everyone folds except the man to my right who calls. The flop comes A-4-10 and he bets another 400k leaving himself with about 350k. I reraise him 300k putting myself all-in. Have I played this wrong considering that I've seen this person fold to reraises a number of times earlier in the tournament?

I don't think you should be playing Poker at this level. Why mention the credit card thing? Are you playing at this level out of desperation?

Yeah I'm all in here everytime. Also with those debts you really shouldn't be playing a €200 buyin tournament, but its your choice I guess.

Your bank roll management is appalling, you shouldn't be playing this tournament, it's people like you that are giving gambling a bad name, go to gambler's anonymous, you need help, unless of course you won the hand and the tournament and therefore cleared your debts so if you did well played and enjoy xmas.

well i'm not gonna defend the fact that I have the debt and the 200 would have helped clear it a bit. The only reason I played at this level was the fact that it was my local pub tournament that I regularly play in and they were having their XMas tournament... temptation got the better of me. the debt i can easily have cleared by february anyway - provided i don't play at this level again...

as it turns out the man called me with A-3. i turned over my hand and his exact words were "yeah, i knew i was behind but i'm gonna hit a 3". low and behold, a three on the turn and i'm out.

the others at the table were saying that it was a bad call after i left the table and he said that he put me on a pocket pair and, even if i had an ace, he still had outs..

believe it or not, before the next blind level, he lost my chips and most of his own on 2 all-ins... i was kinda shocked though cause i play with this player a good lot and he seems to be quite a good player and gets to the money quite frequently..

    Priceless analysis. Herd of donkeys.

    You played it fine.

yeah i think its a defo push on the flop, he just sucked out on you..... UL
in regards your money management take a break for a while or just play smaller stakes .....!

yeah i plan to take a break until the cc is cleared and i can afford it more...

i was thinkin that €200 wasn't too much considering i was quite confident that i could at least cash in this tournament. if i'd have won that hand i would have been clear chip leader with 13 to go - cash up to 8th place and i could've got the €3k - although that's probably the way most gamblers try to clear their debts and i don't wanna fall into that trap or i could have a 5K cc bill next year.. lol...

the only poker i'll be playing between now and february will be a $100 + $5 satellite to the Irish Poker Championship (which I won after spending $22 on a sub-satellite buy-in/top-up) and maybe a few small home games.

Also, not to focus on bankroll, but paying a €200 tourney, and not being too sure what to do about holding AK and hitting the flop...
But you were right to do what you did, in that scenario repeated itself you would win more times than not.
    His call did suck.
I wonder why i play this game sometimes :D

Herd of donkeys is as good a description as I have seen in a while.

Marathonic - If you make a rule of thumbs never to take any gameplay hints or tips off these guys you will be doing fine in general. If you find yourself disagreeing with them all in any given situation, chances are you are right.

I am assuming that the herd of Donkeys were referring to your mans call with A3 as opposed to the Raise of the OP

Yeah, I suppose it's a bit of condolence that I got all my chips in when I was a hot favourite to win the pot - although not much. Ah well, it ain't gonna put me off poker indefinetely - just until im in a better financial position to play.
