Not sure what the clouds are gonna be like tonight...but...

There's going to be a meteor storm of some type if anyone fancies going out for some night photography? (Or evening photography, it's gone so bloody dark!)

    Anyways, who's up for it?

    Ouch... doesn't sound good.
If forecast is wrong, any tips for taking pictures of these? Similar to fireworks? Thinking f22 couple of minutes exposures with a piece of cardboard to cover lens for quiet spells??

now I'm no meteorologist, but wouldnt a wet, cloudy evening be exceptionally bad for photographing a meteor shower? :D

Depends on how long they last for, I'm hoping f/8 or f/5.6 for bursts of either 15 or less seconds or a minute...depends on light pollution.

Was thinking Phoenix Park for tonight anyways, as long as someone had a car. If not, heading out towards Howth?

    Rymus...it add's to the athmosphere :p

    You should know that ;)

What time are you thinking about? This evening "may" be a runner for me, but only for a short while as I've to collect the better half from a long lunch about 9:30 or so. :-)

It's not raining yet, but so cloudy I'm not sure there is much point.

I'll take a look at the sky at 5.

    Merv.

Any time at all if the sky is there really!

Al I will give you a shout about 8:30 or so depending on where I am and what the weather is like theres currently bits of trees blowing past the window at high speeds so it definitely depends on the weather. Also as my tripod is made out of balsa wood (almost) i'd need to borrow someone elses at some point later if this goes ahead.

Hey Ger, just got yer text - We'll see what the weather is like anyways, if we bring umbrellas and keep the tripods to the ground we might just survive ;)

    Just had a look here:

    http://www.astronomy.ie/geminidwatches06.html

Seems there will be folk that "know" in the park from 8 onwards. Probably a good starting point. I'll probably try get there, but will have to leave at 9:30 or so. Can offer a lift back into town at that time if that helps anyone. I'll be the guy in a black coat that looks like an igloo. black peli case, black camera on a black tripod. Answers to "Hey buddy, did'nt we meet on the internet?" with great caution, so introduce yourself as a boardsie. :-)

Ah, excellent...Now...just where is the car park in Phoenix park? I'm living right beside it at the moment.

I've gotta head home in a bit, so won't be online, Merv, I'll PM you my number in a sec!

(And remember to bring gloves, tripod and a cable release...oh...and that 20mm of yours :P ;) )

Aw I'd love to go :( Since I have no camera at the moment though there's not much point. And its bloody freezing. And windy. And freezing. Did I mention freezing?

I hope you guys get a clear spell - its not looking too bad at the moment. Can't wait to see some shots. I'll have to get a look out the window later..

Just caught the first 3 of them and they look really excellent, even better than on the lcd. Very striking images composition wise, and also that light effect is fantastic.

Did you consider flipping it horisontally? I think it may work better...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Only thing done was straightening the horizon and adjusting the blacks in Adobe Lightroom, the rest is as it was :)

I think you're onto something there with flipping it B0rG!

I'm at work - no photoshop here, despite people will give me an eye if I fire it up and start flipping photos :) So, I'd flip it myself - I think it could work better...

And I'm not sure I like the stairs... Meaning: cross, hill.. stairs is important but somehow changes the line between cross and hill.. may be make it a little darker...

But I like natual sepia toning from long exposure :)

Hmmmm...Looks good, but (Probably because I took it) it feels like im looking away fromt the cross rather than to it?

There's one thing about flipping, you need not to look at flipped picture for a day or so, as your eye gets used to the picture and sends a signal in the brain about something being wrong, something being incorrect about it. Sleep over it and see for yourself :)
