WinXP 32-bit on an Athlon 64

    I've never used a 64bit processor so I don't know what they're like. A friend
of mine is running a 32-bit version of windows on a 64-bit athlon and is finding
the machine a little sluggish considering its power (I can't remember which
model processor he has, but its a great one.) He's going to reinstall anyway,
to get rid of all the rubbish he's accumulated over the past while so I suggested
    he use WinXP 64.

My question is: could the sluggishness be due to using a 32bit version on
a 64 bit processor? Would you expect a small or a huge speed difference
between the 32bit and the 64bit versions?

No & no to both (well not really to running the 64-bit version).

64-bit XP never really had decent support so no point in shelling out the cash for it. Vista 64-bit will hopefully be better this time round.

In all likely hood the slow down was due to lack of maintenance or other issues e.g. spyware was affecting the PC's speed.
