Reloading cartridges

    Hello,

Looking for large shotgun cartridges that contain buckshot. As far as I
can make out they are simply not available in Ireland. I can get AAA,
BB's and SG BUCK (OOB also called ). The above are all in 70mm
    cartridges.

I thought I might be able to purchase buckshot (No. 3 or No. 2)
    from a source like:

    http://www.cabelas.com/ssubcat-1/cat20841.shtml

(put 'reloading buckshot' into the search box of the above link to see
    what I am talking about)
With this buckshot I can simply purchase some B & P 63 gram (3.5 inch)
cartridges and swap the shot (usually 0 or 4) with 63 grams of
    buckshot.

Is this legal? Can loose buckshot be purchased in Ireland or does anyone
know where I may purchase some and have it sent here (if its legal!)

It strange that no one stocks or has any interest in cartridges with this
size of shot as you would think they would be saleable to people shooting
foxes and other vermin. They would carry a far superior clout that anything
    available at the moment IMHO.

    Dan

Guess we'll just have to wait until reloading becomes legal in Ireland.
You'll probably have a range of stuff to choose from when that happens.

Until then , we haven't much choice. :(

Just ordering shot is hardly ilegal. No different then ordering fishing weights or ball bearings IMHO! Are thinking of just reloading existing cartridges (i.e. replacing shot for shot) or getting a press fired etc?

I don't see how changing the shot size in a cartridge would contravene any current legislation.

It doesn't contravene any Irish legislation I've ever heard of (except the Firearms Act 2006 which makes it illegal to reload a cartridge without a licence, but that bit's not been commenced yet).

The legislation refers to reloading spent cases, merely replacing shot in a live shell (which might be unwise) is not reloading.

Try Tim Landers down In Tralee.I bought 00 buck off him appx a year plus ago.It is expensive ,Winchester high brass, and only in 10 packs.
BTW,you can change the components of the cartridges, bullets around, without infringing the law as it is not reloading. Was proven about 10 years ago in a court in Donegal[?] with the Gardai trying to do their usual frame up of a deer hunter, who had reloading equipment and was pulling the bullets to refit them with heavier ones on the cartridge.Reloading is taking a compleate empty and making it into a live round.

    Hi all,

    Thanks for input.
I simply intend to swap the lead in the cartridges not reload emptys.
I can purchase 00 Buck easily enough it's just that
there are nine balls per cartridge. I would perfere more.
I could swap the contents of two 2.5 inch 00 Bucks into one
63 gram 3.5 inch cartridge (so long as I dont go over 63 grams).
This is rather expensive. The price of one cartrige becomes the price
of three! Wouldent be using many though.
Shot is available on ebay but not the size I want.

There is info on shot sizes here:

    http://www.fortliberty.org/military-library/shot-sizes.shtml

Would like something like 2 or 3 buck. Never seen in in Eire. Seems a
pity as I would imagine that it would be saleable.

Anyone know of a large cartridge supply place in England, perhaps it
might be possible to get a dealer to import a case of the things.

    Cheers.
