Footlocks - Cheap or Sexy?

So what do you all think of footlocks? I'm talking about all kinds here - toeholds, kneebars, achiles locks, heel hooks(!).

    My thoughts:
In zhoo zhitsu, they're considered bad manners because the gward is holiest of all positions, and with footlocks, you "lack the skill" to passgward, so they're a cultural taboo.

From a safety standpoint, the way people react to footlocks, twisting on their own knee to escape, makes them slightly more dangerous.

Personally, I love a tasty spinning kneebar from halfgward, or a toe hold to let someone know they're being sloppy.

Sexy, unless you are on the receiving end of one. You forgot the undervalued calf crusher / splicer. :D

Since I cant pass guard I think they are deadly.

    Peace

I like them, but then again, nothing looks worse than 2 guys who don't know really how to do them rolling in a tangle of legs trying to get one before the other guy does.

I like calf crushers and slicers, but i think most leg locks are last ditch attempts by people who cant get past my guard. (Admittedly, when they try, I'll just counter with this leg lock :

Leglocks are all apart of the game. When you look at someone like Imanari you understand how intricate the leglock game is. Leglocks all the time when rolling can hinder your progression with guard passing, but so long as you work on your guard passing, I don't see a problem.

I suppose the poll could also be called "People who do leglocks: Cheap or Sexy?" . I mean if you get leglocked by Dave Roche or John Kavanagh or the like, its not annoying because they are good at leglocks and applied them with skill, but if some big 14 stone f**ker just sits back into a badly cranked ankle lock and jerks it on, because he cant get past your guard and he doesnt know how to put it on right, it feels cheap. (Its as bad as big people doing head squezzing to get a tap)

Its like pizza: when done well, they're beautiful , but if done by a sloppy beginner, its still pizza, it just looks like crap:D

It doesn't happen as much anymore, but being 65kg that head squeezing thing was my worst enemy for the few months of training. I had big guys tapping me when I had side control on them!

Leg-locks are great. I wish I was good at them.
    Or at something else.
