Works fine in safe mode but crashes when i try a system restore. Any one any bright ideas?? dont belive its hardware related but will reseat every thing later. oh and i think the bios needed upgrading but never got around to it (pc hasnt shutdown properly in about 6 mths:p ) am on the gf laptop atm.. any help much appricated m.r

Almost certainly hardware related. Had the same problem with the wireless card on a laptop. Software for the wireless care was corrupted. Had to uninstall and reinstall. Try one thing at a time and see what happens.

Did you have a look in "Device Manager" for any clues?

Try running memtest to rule out the memory.

looks like [at a guess] you're hard -drive is dying or ''more likely'' badly corrupt.
take it out and put in another machine [set as slave] and save you're stuff
also you may want to copy the files "wpa.dbl" and "wpa.bak" ...//ref to--- how to reinstall windows ect...
    wipe the drive and reinstall
try using an image tool --- to save time and hassles .............,,<<

For future reference since you seem to have it working now, you don't need to install memtest and just run it off a boot disk or bootable CD.
