Guitar to PC

I want to plug my guitar into my pc.. I have just installed Amplitube. The program says not to use a general 'line in' input. It says it's fine to use a mic input but the diagram of the mic input shows an actual mic connection not the standard jack. My question is would it be ok to plug into this mic input and would i be likely to damage my pc by plugging into here?

    Thanks in advance

Edit; Mods if you think this would be better in the instrument forum feel free to move it. Thanks

if it says not to then i wouldnt, im sure it says so for a reason,
although i have plugged a semi accoustic into the mic socket resulting in a shoite sound

It doesn't say not to plug it in to a mic socket, it's says it's actually ok to do that but the diagram shows an actual mic jack not the normal little 3.5mm jack which is all I have on my pc

Did you just plug your guitar in and run it through the speakers or did you put it through any software?

There is a chance you could blow the line in port on your pc. I think i did that once.

If you still want to take the risk put the volume of the guitar wayy down low when you plug it in.

This will do the trick. Plug your guitar into the 1/4" socket on the back, then a USB cable into your PC. Takes care of volume levels etc.

You cam also plug a pro microphone on XLR into it too. Handy for recording your guitar amp and doing a bit of experimenting.

This is also ideal for playing/recording to PC.
