Wii for sale to the general public still!!!

One of the lads I work with just came back from Smyths in Jervis street where he got his hands on a Wii!! He wasn't q'ing up all morning just walked in the door and got one!! There might be some left if you guys that didn't get one wanna try!!!

Didn't think anywhere was holding back accessories. Smyths on the morning of the launch were holding back games for those with preorders, but that was it. They sold nunchucks and classic controllers np. And Game were selling Wii Play and other accessories to everyone.

Its ****ing annoying that Wiimotes are so scarce, espically considering one of the biggest appeals is the enormously fun multiplayer aspect.

Phoned them today and they said they still need to fulfill pre orders befor they will know if they have any left.

All preorders expired in smyths last night so from 9am this morning is only when they knew if they had any to sell to the public!!

Same with GAME, they said they would only hold pre-orders over the weekend. So if you didn't pre-order you probably have a better chance of picking one up today than you did over the weekend.

But I would not say they will last very long.

Just back from Smyths jervis street. No joy, guy was a bit clueless but said that any that were not picked up would go towards the second bunch of pre-orders. Maybe if I had got a different cash guy it would have been different. If anyone else has any luck let us know and if you pick up two ill buy the other off you. I was planning on getting two if they had them and doing just that.

Well he got one there this morning, also a member on www.wiffy.ie got one there this morning and neither had any sort of preorder on the machines at all!!

He went in this morning because when I got mine on friday people that didn't have a preorder were told to come back today to get one. He went in this morning asked were they selling them and they told him to join the q! He was in the q and only a few people bought some!!

I had someone call round for me there about an hour ago. They said they had 6 this morning and they were all gone.

According to the guy behind the counter, he said Dec 18th was the next available date, but I was in the Smyths out by Fonthill there about 2 hours ago and the guy there said Friday.

I think the staff are doing this just for fun.

Some places (GameStop Omni for one) either didn't get any Wii Play or are out of the loop. They have it marked as 'pre-order this game' and 'coming soon'. Dunno what the story is to be honest.

On launch day only Game had Wiimotes or Wii Play. I asked the manager why and he gave me some speil about market allocation, and how Game have 80% market share so they get more stock, but when I told him that the Smyths / Gamestop had zero Wiimotes or Wii Play but had loads of Nunchucks and Classics he said that was odd.

Must have just been a stock **** up and the other game stores are just pretending its not out yet heh.

Yea, when I was trying to get Wii Play or a controller on launch day Game on Dawson St told me that they were only available to people who had bought the console in the store. Nowhere else had anything. Looking forward to Wednesday now when the stocks are supposed to be back.

i can't believe some of the lies, fairytales and 2nd hand stories people are posting about availability
my advice is don't listen to the posters here anymore, or at least don't take them too seriously - anything i've read has been completely unhelpful - i'll be sticking to preordering where possible and checking smaller shops myself

I pre-ordered mine in Smyths and only paid 25 euro. I think the staff are lying through their teeth TBH.

i just called to smiths and dixons over lunch.

smiths (kinsale roundabout, cork): they got 20 in - all snapped up straight away. people payed full price too so they have to hang on to them. they're not taking preorders anymore and the chap (who seemed to actually know what he was talking about) said there's prob not a snowballs chance in getting one before the big day.

dixons are talking pre-orders still but the bundle of orders above mine was about 30+. they're charging 30 quid but you can get it back anytime if you want it - even if they offer one to u.

i think people's best bet is to write a strongly worded letter to santa using bold font and plenty of CAPITALS.

That's bull. As Moojuice said, Smyths pre-orders are 25 euro, not the full price of the console.

Sorry but its not BS!! Its one of my bosses in work that got it!! His son only asked for a Wii for christmas last week and he asked me if anywhere had any. I searched half the country last week to get him one but to no avail!! All preorders were sold for the first and second batches and he had no chance of getting one for christmas!! On my advice he went to Smyths in jervis street this morning, as i said earlier the lads in smyths announced to the line that it was pre-orders only and that if they were not collected they were being sold to people on monday morning!! Alot of people that were in the q are on here so they can verify that one for you!! He went in this morning and 2 grannies were buying wii's and he asked if they had any for sale and they said yes..... he got one. Its sitting at his desk here in work!! The staff could be telling porkies but I sure am not!!

Im only telling you what Ive experienced this morning, for the benefit of helping others here. What might be dubious is the information thats being passed onto us, but you might want to think again before making us all out to be liars.

And Smyths pre-orders were for €25, not the full price...

Just back from Blanch.

Smyths - no Wii(s) for sale, or in stock for pre-orders. Taking stock this Friday, and they will go to the people on the pre-order list who didn't receive one yet. They don't know how many they will get, and they don't no when the deadline finishes for people to collect them.

Game - They have 5 Wii(s) left, all for pre-orders, but they have not been collected. They won't sell them to General public. This Saturday, they will be offered to the first 5 in the 2nd batch of people who pre-ordered.

forgot to mention.

I have 2 nunchucks, and 2 wiimotes bought them in ToysRus (Timesquare) on Friday. Ironically, they had tonnes of them over there. But no Wii(s) , they were expecting a delivery this Tuesday (not that it helps)

100 people preordered
72 consoles expected in on friday
72 consoles this friday (15th)
==
44 consoles to the GP on friday

i'm not saying you're not telling the truth but there are so many cases now, it seems to me, of conflicting reports when i actually ring around or call into places

having followed some suggestions posted here out of desperation, i've been told the exact opposite in the actual store. it gets frustrating. no doubt the store ppl are well able to fob people off with some story - its hard to get someone who'll tell you what the story is. i don't think many of them are being told the full story either.

i didn't preorder, well cos i thought with a bit of effort and resourcefulness I could locate one. i'm on a preorder list now and am still ringing around/calling in but i'm getting a bit sick of it now. fingers crossed something works out before christmas :cool:

I saw the boxes alright, picked one up on Friday and was told by a fellow customer not to bother going up with it as they didn't have the Wiimotes anyway.

Asked about wiimotes at the counter (not about Wii Play admittedly, I just assumed I hadn't been lied to 30 seconds earlier) and was told they're coming in on Wednesday.

Though I am so ****ing pissed off at HMV, they messed up a pre0order told us we would get one if someone didnt pick up theirs but I have been in twice and there is no data on the system anywhere about us. My only hope is that the manager of the store didnt lie and wrote down our details in a little book somwhere.

Yeah I hate the fact that it is still advertised in the windows of stores, with display boxes on the shelves. Then when you ask do they have one they treat you like an moron. If you dont have it, dont act like you do. Gamstop have a sign up behind the counter but it should be on the window.

That's a fair point. I was surprised Virgin had a huge poster in the window advertising Wii + Wii Sports. Why? Advertise it to entice people to buy it, demand isn't a problem here, supply is.

They do that so you have to walk through the shop and see all the other games and hardware systems they actually do have in stock!
The idea is that you'll give up hope waiting for a wii and just buy a 360 to keep your gaming addiction satisfied!

Ha ha!! Yeah I figured it was that. Im still pissed off at them advertising it but all this will seem stuipid in a few weeks when they are everywhere. HMV piss me off the most.........the moral of the Story? **** HMV!!!!
My original pre-order went very well in Smyths. In future Ill stick with them, Gamestop or Game. Oh well. Il lbe running around from Wednesday morning onwards trying to get one...............

you obviously didnt read his post correct.

The goods were for sale!!! he didnt ask for the wii play game because some other customer told him they had no remotes. but nowhere has remotes. they are only with wii play at the moment. :rolleyes:

There's definitely something stragne going on, a friend of mine called smyths in limerick this morning and they said certain pre orders expired over after sunday. then i went in and apparently there's none available for the general public until the second week of january.

Maybe its just some of the staff that havent a clue whats going on or something

Did anyone get one today?

I also stopped into gamestop and was told the next deliveries could be friday or next week


The rumour thats going around that stores are getting a handful every morning seem very very unlikely
