Well that depends on what type of error it is, what your current level of knowledge is regarding Windows, and what version of Windows you want to learn about?

I recommend the 5 day course "Implementing and Supporting Microsoft XP Professional" in Global Knowledge. Good luck!

Instead of looking up technet, you can also try the same seach in google with the word technet added on. This finds stuff like " I tried xyz in technet XXXX and it didn't work, but abc did." and I've seen far too many fixes like this or that require serious regedit work to sort out
Add in time to reboot and things like system restore / clean install might be worth considering relatively early on in the trouble shooting phase. In quite a few cases it's easier to work around the problem or scrub and start again than it is to fix it.

The hard part is knowing when to give up as not all windows problems are repairable.
