    Hi ,

I am thinking of upgrading my old Fuji Digital camera to the Fuji 5600. I am casual user mainly for Family and Holidays etc

Pixmania have it HERE for €215 plus delivery of €12 I think.

This sounds like a bargain to me. Anyone got any views/expierence on the camera please? Thanks

one of the lads in college has this, i've used it a few times, its nice and its light.

i have the big brother to it, the s9500, and my experience with the s5600 is that the aperture and shutter speed controls are not as intuitive compared to my s9500, but then i've not used it much so i is porbably just a matter of getting used to it.

although my friend is itching to move onto something with a bit more punch pixel wise its still a good camera and can produce good photos, but again thats dependant on your ability.

i bought my camera from pixelmania too, the one thing i will say is that your better off to get their kits as you'll save a load, i saved about e150 compared to what i'd pay for mine in the shops when i bought it.

hope that helps, its always worth googleing reviews for it too. i spent a lot of time researching the pro's and cons of my camera before i bought it.
buy something that suits your needs and aspirations and you will have a piece of kit that will suit you down to the ground, rather than something recommended by a magazine or friend that will have more buttons and twiddly bits than a boy racers car.
    sm

just remembered that the highest iso setting is 400iso and the slowest shutter speed it 15sec no B setting i think.
we were doing a bit of night photography last week and i was using his camera

Bought one a while ago but haven't taken it out too often. Great camera. Fairly light and small and does the job. For that price its very good. Only thing I didn't like was it takes batteries..grr..

I guess it depends what you mean by upgrade. What does the 5600 give you that your current camera doesn't.

    I have a 4 year old Fuji A303
    3 MP with 3 X optical Zoom
Very annoying lag when taking pics
Generally want it for kids , family etc

So speed would be the main thing.

I had a basic point and shoot digtial and wanted something faster and with better IQ. I was looking at the 9500 and decided I didn't really get it unless I moved to a DSLR. I also wasn't blown away by the sample images I found on the web for the 9500. So I got a DSLR, and its been great for capturing the kids and family. You can take a whole bunch of photos in seconds, even with the kids moving and just keep the best photo. A lot more money though. A basic D40\D50 is about 600. That said I did have a film SLR and would know the basics of getting a decent photo, having done a course many moons ago.

I say go for it, johnnyrotten. I similarly upgraded a couple of years ago from a Finepix 2600 to a(n?) S5000 — the predecessor of what you're looking at, and for a similar price, stateside. It's a helluva nice camera to use and will do nearly everything you'd want, for less than half the price of an entry-level DSLR. I recently got some 18"x12" enlargements made and I can't fault the quality.

7dayshop are doing it for £145/€216; throw in a 1Gb xD card for £16.49, and whatever other bits and pieces you might want; shipping is a flat £3.95 so you might as well spread it over a bigger order.

It's called the 5200 in the States.

There's a review of it here: http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Fujifilm-FinePix-S5200-Digital-Camera-Review-.htm if you can put up with annoying pop-up ads.

10x Zooms are great, but it's near impossible to use them hand held at the far end of the zoom in winter without getting camera shake. There's no image stabilisation. So keep that in mind.

    Psshaw, just takes practice...:p

Seriously, though — one of the improvements in the S5600 over the S5000 is that you can set the ISO up to 800/1600 (as opposed to 400 max in the S5000), effectively buying yourself a couple of extra shuuterspeeds/f-stops in the exposure, and use the shutter priority mode — ideally 1/320, at full zoom?

If you want/need image stabilisation in an equivalent 'SLR-like' camera, consider the Lumix DMC-FZ7. But it'll cost you a hunnert yoyos extra...

How is noise at those settings. The panasonic is especially nosiy from what I read with such a small sensor and such a high pixel count.

Dunno, 'cos my S5000 only goes up to ISO 400! ;)

Its barely relevant, the results will be next to useless above iso400 anyway.

for what it's worth I had the s5000 the predecessor to the s5600, but I gotta say, I found it very frustrating, the write times were terrible (you miss so many shots because of this ... ), I used this over 2 years and was very frustrated with the camera for taking shots of kids running around ... so I went for a DSLR and never looked back!

also found the camera overly complicated when in manual mode ... changing ISO, Zoom, manual focus ... terrible!

All in all it depends on what you want the camera for, if it's action shots ... forget it ... writes times very poor indeed.

sorry for the negativity, but this was with the s5000, don't know if the improvements in the s5600 are worth it or improve on write times
