Sky Distribution to multiple TV's

I need to split the RF2 feed so that the sky box in the sitting room can feed both the existing TV upstairs and one in the new extension. I am using a magic eye upstairs and plan to use one in the extension too. Is there any problem with just splitting the RF2 connection from the sky box into two feeds using a simple Y splitter, or should I really be using some sort of distribution amp? If it makes a difference rarely if ever would the two TV's be used at the same time.

    Cheers.

Its not a good idea to split this feed especially using a Y splitter, use an F140 or similar amp, no power needed as it gets this from the digibox

Tony, Just wondering why its not a good idea ? Is it only because splitting the signal results in 2 weaker signals ?

I have the same setup as OP, RF output from Digibox to 1 TV setup with remote eye. Problem is that Sky channel is watchable but the picture is not as clear as I think it should be, all terrestrial channels are perfect - much clearer than Sky channel, which indicates that connections, cables etc are all ok. I have changed the RF Modulation channel to numerous different values but with the same result. Any ideas on what could be wrong ?

Y splitters vary in quality. many are not Sky RF2 / Sky eye compatible.

They also reduce TV signal to less than 1/2 and may block RF2 DC, or short it out or block the Sky Eye return signal or reduce it.

I think the main reason Y-splitters are not recommended is that most of them will not pass the DC supply for the magic eye correctly. For it to work, one that has a complete metal shield is needed, not just a plastic one that only splits the inner core and leaves the braid unconnected.
