IPOD questions

    im thinking about getting an ipod - few questions

    - does i tunes have spyware - ie if i have loads of mp3 already from various sources i take it itunes connects to the net to get the song details... does itunes report what music i have?

    - i take it the ipod video can only show mov files ? do macs come with software that will convert my avis to mov?

    I'm sure that they wouldn't, sharing your details without your knowledge etc is bad mummk

    You can but you need to convert them to .mp4 using converting software which Apple do no provide.
    You better getting a multi-codec mp3/video player like the Creative Vision M or an iRiver than a iPod, better selection of music/video file playback with no need to convert.

    No, iTunes doesn't spy on you, it just looks up id3-tag data from GraceNote -- just like any other music player.
    Also, from my experience iPods will ONLY show MPEG-4 (.mp4) files -- personally, I don't mind converting my video files, as it saves me space & my anime looks alright at low-res -- iSquint for OS X will convert to 320x240 mp4 files with a h.264 encoder. I think modern ATi & nVidia cards (for Windows) have a hardware encoder, too.

    plus you've to convert to put stuff onto irivers anyway, you to reduce the resolution.

    The creative seems to be the best option
