spoke to a currys rep in belfast just now, ¨we're not stocking any nintendo wii's before christmas, that goes for all of the currys branches¨

Just back from Currys in Liffey Valley, even though I had mine on preorder for weeks now they said they have none in. I ohoned last night at 6ish and they said that if I have a preorder I should be fine and that they open at 10.
Today, even though the manager's sellers id is on the preorder, 17 John, he says he didn't take any preorders. I'm really pissed off with Currys at the moment, unbelievable eejits. Strange how she said it should be fine last night though, did they mysteriously leave with the staff last night ala Xtravison Rathmines who also say they didn't get any. Shame.

At least the shop I went to in Cavan (I think it's "toys r us") admitted to giving half of their stock to staff..... i.e. one out of the two they got in. Well pissed off with the whole thing. I was ringing Argos to check if they were taking pre-orders for the last couple of weeks and every time was told they werent. Arrived down this mornin @ 8:45 to be told that the ones they had in stock had all been pre-ordered!!!!

I was told the same thing last night. Went in today and was told they dont have them in yet. They have my pre order and said I will get it before Xmas they just dont know when. This just isnt on, I new when I pre ordered over a month ago that things didnt seem right. Anyone else got any storys from Currys?

My sister had a preorder in Currys in Cork, they rang on Thursday to tell her that they weren't getting any in. She also had a preorder in HMV Cork and they called and told her they hadn't got enough and that she was too far down the list to get one.

However it ended well, my sister lined up for 3 hours outside a Gamestop in Cork that was doing FCFS only and she got one there.

I had a preorder with Game, Henry St. but was told I was in the second batch so non on release day, so I lined up outside Dawson St and got one last night.

They might lose the head with you if you phone every day, they're not a very happy bunch.
I know, I was very annoyed first thing this morn as I had phoned to confirm yesterday evening and they said I'd be fine.
I reminded them of how other stores were able to get stock and that even Argos down the road was able to sell 5 yesterday. I think they're so used to complaints as they're part of the Dixons/PcWorld disaster.
If they had told us yesterday when we phoned, I probably would have chanced my arm and headed into Dawson street about 10 and from reports might have got one.
Lesson for the future I suppose is to deal with Game/Gamestop/Smyths who seem to be more incontrol of their business and able to get results.

good info on the BBC News website, apparently Currys missed out bigtime, they must have pissed off Nintendo for some reason
"Pre-ordered a Wii from Curry's. Went to pick it up to find the store covered in posters telling me that they (as in all Curry's shops) had received nothing from Nintendo and that their allocation had been reallocated to another store. They offered me a refund or a wait until January. Took the refund.

There's also a good news report on the shortages in Britain

    Found this on the reg

"Nintendo have only shipped part of the promised stock for Nintendo Wii to all retailers within the UK," the retailer told pre-order customers. "Due to this, we have only received part of our allocation. We are led to believe by Nintendo that we will receive all stock in time for pre-Christmas delivery. Please accept our apologies for this delay."

Woolworths' email suggests the problem is not restricted to it alone. Indeed, we also heard today from readers who claimed Amazon.co.uk had issued a similar warnings to its pre-order customers. Again, it appears the online retailer may not get enough stock to supply consoles tomorrow, though it appears to be promising to get product out to buyers before Christmas.

Woolworths' comments mirror comments made today by DSG Group, owner of Currys, PC World and the dixons.co.uk website, that while it expects to be able to meet pre-orders for the Wii, it may not be able to supply consoles to anyone else.

"We're expecting four deliveries between now and Christmas and we expect them all to go to pre-orders," the company told website GamesIndustry.biz.

"If customers haven't already pre-ordered then they've probably missed the boat."

    Not looking good

I think the problem is with non game specialised stores, Game, Gamestop and Smyths seemed to have no problems, with game getting lots for FCFS even.

It makes sense, Game/Gamestop/Smyths probably do vastly more regular business with Nintendo then the likes of Currys, etc. who only do a small trade in games. So looking after Game/Gamestop/Smyths first makes sense for Nintendos business.

Wasn't it the Dixons group (Currys, Dixons, PCWorld) that pulled all GameCube games and hardware a few years ago? :p

In currys they price match so if you say game have them for 250 they should give them... (but prob not cause they no theres no stock)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 786 ✭✭✭center15

I've a mate who works in PC World, the whole DSG group (Currys, PC World, Dixons) did take orders for the wii and id order them with Nintendo but did not receive stock. They will not be getting them in before Christmas now it was going to sell there for €270, €20 above RRP same as most places.

This was the Mahon Point one - that was the price they were quoting for "guaranteed" pre-orders

I went to PC world and they said Currys will have them we wont. Went to Currys, no not till new year.

The currys catalogue has them in at 259.99 Thats what it said when I pre ordered and so thats the price I expect to pay when they eventualy turn up. I was told that should be before Xmas but at this point I dont think anybody knows.

I phoned Currys in Liffy Valley this morning as there were rumours of 7 available Wii on other boards, no joy. Also phoned Smyth's on the off chance that somebody didn't collect their pre-order, also no joy.

However the girl in Smyth's said that they will be getting in some on Weds or Thurs to fulfil the pre-order requests and then another delivery Christmas week to sell on a first come first severed basis.

    There maybe some hope yet.......

I doubt that. How would they get away with it? Only the brain dead would buy at that price from a retailer. I can understand someone going insane needing one and buying off ebay for that price but from a retailer that is just ripping you off to the point where you should just demand that they sell it to you at retail price or walk away.

That's the difference between retailers that are only interested in making a quick buck and those interested in securing lifelong customers.

Found out today that all the shops are waiting for the shipment to europe. Once it is in europe then they will find out how many each will be getting. They have to be shipped to europe then they get shipped to Ireland. I was told that they hope to know more tomorrow and hope to have them by Thursday or Friday. For now just keep rinning round.

Decided not to take a refund as I still wanted them to get me one if Currys are up to anything. They said they'd phone but as with yourself it's fierce quiet. The pre-order receipt is turning yellow with age, here's hoping.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 510 ✭✭✭dts

I am the same hoping that they come good. The girl who deals with the wii order had to leave early today so didnt get to talk to her but there was an email this morning and its not looking good for before Xmas.
Not sure if Blances Currys is getting any, wondered if I should give them a call and see if I could get them to hold one?

Went in today to get my money back. Was told that they will have them in for the 18th of Jan. Now I am not sure what to do? What a total cock up this whole thing has been. Looks like Nintendo/currys have spoilt Xmas.

That is terrible dts, the useless f***ers at Currys Liffey Valley, what in God's name were they taking money from people for pre-orders. They didn't even get one console in, even shops on ebay got more in from Nintendo fot the release date let alone not be able to get any for before Christmas.

    Hi nicelives,
I gave up this afternoon. I have ordered one from ebay.de for 296euro and will be going into curry to get my deposit back. The german ebay site has lots of them going for just over cost price and shipping to ireland via dhl is only 18euro.
    Good luck, DTS:D

Been looking for one myself would have got one on the midnight launch in game dawson st at 3am if i wasn't so drunk after an xmas party and was told to call back in the morning (don't think they trusted me walking around with a console in the state I was in), they said they're would at least 10 left in the morning and there was...still bitter about not getting up at 9, anyway gona order one myself now from the guy you just ordered from. Happy xmas

Nice one -im still awaiting a response from them. Have to change my delivery address to my work address so hope that didn't freak them about a bit.

Haven't even thought of what games to get. Twilight PRincess...all well and good but don't have 40hrs free to play it. Thinking Rayman..and maybe Elebits.

Any of the FPS's any good??
