Topic's a bit self-explanatory really. With the new PvP arena battles, what would your ideal 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5 arena teams be?

Paladin Warr for 2 v 2 or Shadow priest Lock

For 3 v 3, I reckon a paladin, a warrior and a shaman would be almost impossible to beat, either that or holy priest lock and shadow priest

5 v 5 I'd take lock shaman paladin shadow priest warrior

Holy priest would offer pretty much nothing extra compared to the shadow priest in your 3v3 (whereas the shadow priests debuffs stack with the warlocks and visa versa).

Hmmm. Swap holy for mainly disc with some holy.

Warrior? really? Just give me a lock and shadow priest and for the 3v3 throw in a mage for some more cc.

Locks are stupidly powerful, i dont think ill ever pvp with my warrior again. Too many cc's and slows that i can do nothing about. Tis a pity really cos i love the class outside of pvp.

funny that no one is saying a rogue :)

affiliction and demo warlocks are total **** to kill. demo warlock and paladin would be just painful in 2v2.

3v3 I'd say a shaman, paladin and warlock would be nasty

5v5 2* shaman, druid (oomkin or tree of life), paladin, BM hunter (according to reports BM hunters have been ripping people up in TBC Beta) would be a nasty combo.

I don't feel warlocks or shadow priests are as powerful in 5v5 as in 2v2. Other classes are suited better for group pvp while Shadow priests and warlocks are the lords of 1v1.

Yeah, for 2v2 I'd go with a shadow priest and a warlock.

For 3v3 probably 2 rogues and a priest. Oodles of CC, 2 saps which a priest can do nothing about. Mage could probably solo an entirely warrior opposing group. Rogues to brutalize the warlocks... Lots of stuns combined with high damage output of a mage would be pretty nasty.

5v5 probably, paladin, mage, shaman, shadow priest and a lock, or maybe a rogue in there somewhere instead.

TBH, for the longest while you will see alot of stacked groups, i.e. 4 rogues and 1 priest or something, I think in time, these groups will get washed away by the skilled, equally geared balanced teams. At least I hope to feck they do or else it will just show up the pvp as being less balanced than blizzard claim.

As a rogue, this patch is harder to adapt to than most, because most rogues are still using old style builds for pvp (myself included) which can be a weakness against classes that can use their 41 point talents... (not looking at the warlocks here ¬¬)

As such, I wouldn't take a rogue because some of the other classes are just better atm.

Btw, anyone else finding paladins godly these days?

God, I wish my exams were over... I want to enjoy being overpowered!

Paladins have always been godly, people however, have always been stupid!

I've actually found paladins alot easier than previous days, but I think thats due to changes to the mage class/my build, than to anything that was done with paladins.

    5 person team would be:
4 Shadow Priests and 1 Holy Priest
    2 person team would be:
1 Shadow Priest and 1 Mage

    2v2 Mage Paladin for life.

Sheep one fo your opponents, kill the other one. then kill the sheep! blessing of santuary is your friend so the pally cant be sheeped (in theory) xD

2v2 - mage and pally... sheep 1, kill the other, kill the sheep.
3v3 - mage, mage and pally... sheep 2, then destroy the remaining 'victims' one by one.
    5v5 - 4 mages and a pally... sheep 4 (:P), then kill 1 by one.

When are people going to realise there are far better Crowd control methods than sheep, these days.

Sheep can be dispelled and has a 12 second duration, max.

Sap can be done from stealth and is uninterruptible. As far as I am aware there are only 3 ways to break sap and of those, 2 of them work on sheep as well...

Please rogues have insane damage these days and they arent nearly as 1 shotable as mages are.

Sap is horribly unreliable. It's also bloody hard to use without imp sap, which (for now) requires you to spec fairly deep into subtlety.

Poly is spammable, hence it's popularity.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 4,569 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ivan

Imp sap is now/will be, a tier 2 talent and becomes 100%. Its insane for pvp and I try to tell rogues that, whenever I can but the majority of them just laugh at me.

Poly isnt spamable. Every time you recast poly, you half its duration. First cast, 12 seconds. Recast poly cuts that down to 6 seconds, even if it were on 10 when the new one landed. 3rd time it lasts 3 seconds and 4th time they are immune.

Dont get me wrong, 12 seconds is fantastic in pvp (especially as a mage) but the ability to walk up to a target, disable them for 12 seconds minimum without them rehealing and then go off and do whatever else you wanted to do, all while being pretty much untargetable... well its pretty powerful.

Not to mention with improved gouge, in the middle of a fight you can:

    1-Gouge
2-Wait 5 seconds to leave combat
    3-Stealth
    4-Sap

All without your opponent being able to do anything, assuming you time it right and/or have skillz...

that beats any polymorph spell in my book.

Not to mention that there are only 3 ways to remove it:
Warrior berserker rage, divine shield and ice block...

    Compared to:
    various trinkets
    dispel
    cleanse
    iceblock
    divine shield

And all the while, polymorph is regenerating the targets health...

So for me its fairly obvious which is the superior, but I've never encountered any "fairly unreliable" issues with sap, so please, educate me :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,255 ✭✭✭anonymous_joe

Sap fails easily... And it can't be recast.

I intend on taking the imp sap talent when we get our new talents, for now it's too high up the subtlety tree...

Tbh though, you don't get many opportunities in BG's to use sap, other than AB and the odd attack on a flag room in WSG...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

You'd be surprised how many times I've been sapped while healing a tank on Drek in AV... And in pretty much any BG in the days before cross-realm - the undead rogues of Kilrogg seemed to always have a sap with my name on it!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 4,569 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ivan

Sap is amazing in AV. Running around the front lines, sapping healers and mages while they are mid cast and then moving on to the next. Serving no real purpose except completely disrupting casters for a very long time all while remaining pretty safe...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,255 ✭✭✭anonymous_joe

I love to sap one healer, kick another, gouge one, and blind a third. Use the AB trinket and evasion and I might gouge or kick one or two more.

Wiped a couple of raids by taking out a massive chunk of their healing like that before. Saps hard to pull off in that situation to though cos of combat. ;)

And yeah, I do love sapping the one randomer I come across in a BG... I have a particular love for sapping dwarf warriors in that vile AQ40 armour.
