I was thinking of joining Monkstown Pool and fitness but there are some good offers in Crunch, might prove to good to resist. Anyone been there lately and got any views on it?

I got a tour of the place last year - you can probably arrange something similar? If you're into your weights you won't like it. Cardio-wise it looked fine.

I was in crunch for some time. When they opened first it was really good very well run, when one of the machines went down it was replaced really quickly or there was at least a note on it saying when it would be replaced.

A lot of the staff members left at the same time, they were very good enthusatic guys and one girl. Since then it hasn't been as good, if you like your spin classes don't expect the instructor to do the class with you, they'll just stand there and shout instructions.

The pool is not for swim training, it's shy of 20 meters and isn't laned or anything it's purely for relaxing. If you even try to do some proper swim training you'll get funny looks. Weights room isn't somewhere I'd spend a lot of time anyway but it's very small on free weights.

    Hope this helps.

Theres 2 weights sectons, ones a "big" weights room, which consists of one bench and 2 smith machines, the weights go from 14 - 35 kgs per dumbell which is really poor. This room tends to get really crowded aswell cos theres people bench pressing and using the " big" weights.

The other section is pretty big but theres only 5 benches and weights only go up to 18 kg per dumbell.

In both rooms theres often queues for machines.

    Its excellent for cardio.

But im big into my weights so i find that the 35 kg limit on dumbells is pretty poor.

The weights rooms are always crowded aswell.I suggest u go on the free tour to see if its really suited to you.

I was the fitness director there for 4 years (was there since the opening), back then i had a great team and they have all gone on to running their own businesses.

Overall its an excellent gym for 99% of all trainee's as most people do not and will have no need to lift more than 25kg dumbbells on most exercises.

Its very clean it looks great, yes the staff are not great but i have NEVER been in any gym where i have been impressed by the staff and i visit gyms all over the world.

So take a tour but compared to the dive that is monkstown its a no contest in my opinion.
