    Hey,

My dad is looking for some kind of cable that goes from RS232 (serial) to USB or something like that. Does anyone know of such a cable and where I might obtain it from?

    Thanks.

    Pick a place: http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&q=RS232+%28serial%29+to+USB+&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

http://www.expansys.ie/p.aspx?i=101609 (Rather bad photo + description but I think this is one from a reliable-enough site.)

    Try eBay as well...

    What's he trying to do?

You can get an adapter that allows an RS232 device to connect to a USB port, but I've never seen the other way around. All Cables (01 4531233) in South Circular Road Dublin have them, and I'm sure you can get them elsewhere.

I tried google alright but half the sites were American or looked dodgy. One of them didn't even have Ireland in the scroll box .

That second link looks decent, I'll try that thanks.

His laptop doesn't have a serial port and he needs to connect to various equipment.

Just be warned Serial\USB conversion is not an exact science and you may need to try a couple of adaptors to work with the devices you have.
