I am moving from bridge to SLR soon and was just wondering - how does the macro button work on a bridge camera?
What exactly does it do? I mean there is no additional lense involved in taking macro shots using a bridge.

Is it possible to take macro type shots on an slr with no macro lense (i.e using telephoto)?

    Any links / info appreciated

The "macro" function on these cameras are crap. It just enables you to focus from that little bit more closely. Nowhere near a substitute for a macro lens. On an SLR, you'll need a dedicated macro lens.
