I am considering buying a Canon EOS 3000V mainly due to it's low price and wondering if anyone here happened to have used one before?

As this would be my first camera I am not willing to splurge out unless I do intend to get very serious into it :)

I have the 300v which is similar & I think it comes with the same kit lens (28-90mm f/4.5-5.6). It's a really easy camera to use, I'd advise getting yourself the 50mm f/1.8 lens to go with it (very cheap, very fast!). It's a good starter kit if you want to go down the 35mm road.

Alternatively you may want to look at the 350D/400D dSLR's (or Nikon's D50) if you're thinking of going digital instead.

As film cameras go its not too bad. I bought one second-hand as a backup for my 30V. Havent had to use it too much but it was fine when I did.

You should get one for pretty much next to nothing. I paid €30 for mine body-only.

Just remember, if you buy a canon body for 35mm and start collecting lenses, if/when you want to switch to a DSLR you'll not likely want to move to a different make. Bearing in mind the main complaint about the canon 350/400D being too small/light/fiddly for man-sized hands (just in case you happen to have them) this might actually be worth factoring into your decision at the moment.

You'd think I was a nikon owner... sheesh.

Besides that, you can't go far wrong with an eos film body. It's the lenses you have to pay attention to.

    Cheers for the comments

I looked back into the 350D and was unwilling to spend the 600euro second hand to 800+ new when I stumbled on amazon.com's offer of only 446 euro.

Have a good few friends over in the states so thinking of sending it to one of them to bring it back to Ireland.

My only worry is - would there be any serious difference in the US camera?

    No difference at all.
