Someone asked me today when the 2007 series was on and I was sure it hadn't been announced yet but went looking and found this:-

    http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/news/fullstory.sps?inewsid=375561&itype=&iCategoryID=1514

It's not the full details but it does say the main event will be starting on the 1st June and ending on the 17th. So it's a bit earlier in the year. Might affect some plans. I would have preferred the late summer timing again as I am hitting the property ladder next year and need time to win money to pay for it. Oh well.

Anybody got any opinions on where is the best place to try and qualify?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,296 ✭✭✭valor

Or indeed, when different sites start running satellites?

I thought the WSOP had banned 3rd party registrations?
I saw PPP running WSOP tournys a few months ago, but have stopped now.
From what I've heard (and I could be 100% wrong, working off memory here) that poker sites can no longer register players for the WSOP, and that those who had won packages were given the buyin in cash into their poker accounts.

If that's the case, personally, I'd be much more inclined to just keep the cash than blow it on a tourney with a huge field - surely there must be some catch to prevent this?

stars is by far the best. they will start sats when the wpt sats are finished, at the start of the new year.

by far the best rated on what? Structure of sats, overlay, taking care of players?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭sikes

theres a huge number of players that play the weekly grand final so i think theres a greater chance of a good player getting a seat. The structure on stars is fantastic as well.

I think stars added 1k to the package for the hotel last year but i could be wrong.

Theres also loads of ways to sat into the 650$ sat qualifier.

Ask RoundTower how he was treated as he won his seat with them last year.

That's 17th July Muso for the last day of the ME. Just in case anyone was thinking it was 17th June.

Posted this on Antesup about 2 months ago... Muso you are getting slow in your old age!

Judging by last year I'd say the whole festival will start at the beginning of June if not before.

hmmm... I played in a wsop mtt sat on ppp about two weeks ago. Had 900+ entries. They paid out two tickets.... and if it wasn't for the worst run of luck after an absolutely fantastic tournament*, one of those would have been mine.
I'd like to know if it woulda been the cash though... like others, I seriously doubt id buy a ticket if I won it in cash.

*honestly, I was playing fantastic poker for the whole thing, was 2nd in command with 20 left, until I lost 2 hands in 6 with AK Vs AJ all in preflop. Then ran KK into AA, and finally QQ into AA - same player

If third party direct registration is not going to be allowed I would imagine that the sites would make it a condition of entry that you collect your 'winnings' in Las Vegas during registration and they will 'help' you register. I assume these sites will all know that the majority of players will keep the cash rather than go if they have to actually hand over the cash, which the may have partially or fully lost in the meantime anyhow, themselves.

The WSOPstarts on 1st of june, but main event wont be until july. Final table starts on 17th.
I'll be in america around this atage and am thinking of buying into one of the smaller events. There was a few new events this year and hopefully there will be few good low buy in events next year.

I can't find the link, but I read that the story about the 3rd party ban was a bit of a false story.
Apparently this ban has actually been in operation since the 2005 WSOP, and seeing as it has had no affect the last 2 years, then it isnt expected to have any impact next year either.

Meh. The lowest buy - in events are $1,000. For which you get a 1,000 starting stack. Even with hour levels beginning at 25 / 25 I'm not sure if they are good value tbh.
    I am, they're not.

So if i manage to save $1500 by the time i get to vegas, about a month into my america trip, woiuld you recommend playing a $1500 WSOP event, main event sats, regular large buy in tourneys, or hitting the cash tables

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 658 ✭✭✭Hawk Eye

Who cares about value theres a goddamn braclet at the end of it.
Anyway everyone knows that these (relativly) small buyin events require more skill then a deepstacked event.

I heard that the main event live super sats are soft so if I were you I'd go for one of these.

My sarcosmometer is doing really funny things right now. I think it is indicating that it hopes you are not serious - though you might just be all the same.

Push/Fold strategy is alien to most cash players and probably most tourney players. A really good sng player playing at a high enough level would have a huge edge in these especially at the initial levels where it might SEEM to be a crapshoot.

Having never played poker in Veges, I am hardly the most qualified to answer for certain, but from reading accounts of others, there are far better structure tournies around the 200-500 mark that go on in Vegas. Personally if you have 1500 to spend, I would take 500 for a 1-2 cash game which are apparantly soft during the WSOP, and sepend the other grand on some of the tournies at Wynn's, Ceasers's or wherever the best structure games are, and if you do well in any of the above then maybe take a shot at a bracelet. What do I know though.....

The qualifers over there are well worth a try. Probably the easiest way in too but for many they want to know they have qualified before they travel. Bodog had some ridiculous qualifiers that I played in. For example $65 freezeout with 1 guaranteed seat and at most 80 runners. I would say they got stung badly though and will probably have a rethink on their qualifiers this year.

this is a really good point people don't realise enough, obviously it's not the best investment of your case $1500 but if you are good at SNGs there has got to be good value in these.

You mean the players are real bad in the live satellites ? I'm probably not too pushed on what events I play, may even just go and play cash games for a month.

Yes unless you qualify for the main event, I think going and playing the cash games for a month or so is your best bet. You could always play one or two tourneys to break things up. Like the Bellagio 1k which is meant to be very good, though I never played it.

    mmmmmmmmmmmmmm Bellagio buffet.

I would say you are severly underfunded tbh. Don't blow it all on a crapshooty WSOP event whatever you do. Use the $1500 for a couple of shots at the daily $300 freezeout at the Wynn (assuming it is still running) and a couple of buy - ins at the cash tables. But, if possible, have more money.

Thanks fior the advice. But i imagine 1.5k will be the most ill save.
I quit part-time job for the year because its my last year in college and also started my thesis last week.
Ill be going to america around the end of june so any money i save until will go on the trip. Any poker money I have will need to be save up while working before i go to vegas.
unless I win a nice tourney over here before I go, I won't have much more than that.

The tasty tasty cash games.... omg. So tasty but so nuts (and boring).
Wait for big hand, reraise fish, thats about it.

I wouldnt recommend the WSOP side tournies personally but others played them last year and said they werent too bad.

How much was accomodation per week on average?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭sikes

slum it in the stratosphere for about 30$ a night, prices arent inflated in general for the wsop, its not a big event as far as vegas goes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,434 ✭✭✭cardshark202

I think myself and RT paid $725 each for what was basically 3 weeks and that was the 'WSOP rate', though I could be slightly off with that figure.
