Buy Before or After Christmas?

    Hey guys,

I'm looking into buying a 360. Would you expect me to get the best deals before Christmas (e.g Smyths bundle: Premium + Gears of War for 440 and those xtra-vison and game ones) or after Christmas in the sales?

Is a price drop expected anytime soon? I have no problems with waiting till after Christmas if a price drop/better deal would be expected.

    Thanks :D

You probably wont get a price drop. Microsoft stated they wouldnt be dropping the price of the system until sony drop the price of the playstation. It probably doesnt matter whether you buy before or after xmas but if you wait until after xmas you might get some good second hand packages. Some people have no interest in gaming and might have some as unwanted xmas presents. Keep an eye on adverts.ie or buyandsell.ie after xmas and you'll more than likely get a good package deal

The Xtra Vision deal for 499 is probably the best you will get. Premium console and Gears of War, Pro Evo 6, Splinter Cell and PGR3. Excellent price and all are top notch games and have something for everyone.

It probably won't get much better than that ^^ after christmas anyway. So all you need to decide is whether you want to start playing 360 now, or wait 'til later.

Thanks! Are the 360s being sold new from shops at the moment coming with the updated disc drives to optimise noise or something?

I was in the same boat. Decided that MS were unlikely to do anything until the PS3 is at least released here. Got my xbox sunday for 299 by trading in my very old ps2 and four games. premium, no games but I have GOW on the way.

Was thinking if I got desperate for ps2 I could always buy a slim one cheap soon with the ps3 on the way, and the old ps2's would be worth feck all otherwise! :)

Yeah, the noise output from the dvd drive spinning discs has been optimised to a higher level of audio quality.

I can't see the price dropping any time before the ps3 is available in quantity in Europe. How mush spare time will you have during xmas that could be better spent gaming on the 360?

Why didn't you get the half price ones in Tesco during the weekend?

Well for me I initially thought it was only 25% back in points after paying normal price. Realised late saturday was 25% off plus 25% in points. Nothing around shannon / limerick when I went looking sunday. Don't even seem to have heard of it. Still, happy enough.

Does that mean the new ones are much quieter? I'm slow. :o

I'll have loads of free time over xmas to play the 360, I don't do an awful lot right now either haha. I also missed the tesco deal untill I heard about it on Sunday night - too late unfortunately.

Do you think Game would take any kind of bandy old PS2 (mine goes whirrrrr alot and the front cover of the disc tray is missing) or do they have to be a good enough standard to resell? I have a host of games that I'd love to throw at them to get a cheaper 360.

    Hi,

Just wondering what shops you can trade in an old PS2?

    Thanks.
