theres plenty of threads with general info already on here.
have a read through them first.
if you have specific questions people will be more able to help you.

    think about -
how much you want to budget - include insurance and gear in your budget
where are you based - your insurance will be cheaper outside dublin
what type of bike do you want
how old are you, what experience do you have
and so on on and on and on

help us to help you :)

At the risk of sounding pretentious, there is a sticky with all the information you need at the top of this forum.

It seems that every second thread here is asking the same questions about starting biking.

I know us bikers are ment to be the friendliest, most helpfull people you'll ever meet, but this has to stop some time.

This forum has gone to the dogs recently and these threads aren't helping.

I dont know how much you know about bikes but i have recently bought a bike, i can tell you a few of the mistakes i have made being clueless.
    1) I bought a less common bike which as i am finding out that parts can be very hard to find.
    2) A 125 is good insurance wise but I will have to get a 250 for my full A catagory test so in the back of my mind im wishing i bought a 250. But a 125 is great to start on by the way.
    3) If you find a bike you like then do a bit of research on the net. Most bikes have a related Honda,Aprilia etc forum that may have the specific info on why or why not to buy that bike.
    4) Know what you want before you buy and dont take the first bike you 'kinda' like in your price range.

This website is a great resource and i am very glad to find it. But as said above there is a lot of general info on various threads about buying a bike. So have a good dig around, i found a lot of info on previous threads from ages ago.

KTRIC as a new member i can see your point and I can put my hand up too for asking a lot of newbie questions and as some of you being long time members you probably see the same queries again and again. As far as the site goes,i dont know how it was before and maybe its all us newbies looking for info but I could regail you all with stories of me cutting out at various junctions and at a building site which was in no way embarrasiing at all....Sorry

Get a NSR125. Its fast and reliable. Parts are easy to get. Forget about 125 cruisers if you want to go outside the city, they're too slow. As for your test, you can get the loan of a 250 from an instructor at little expense.

As a suggestion for a first bike, I really think you can't go wrong with a DT125
