My girlfriend and I are planning on going to one of these places in January. Both of us would probably prefer to go to Amsterdam but Barcelona would be grand. We're having trouble weighing up the various pros/cons.

We would be going to Barcelona via Reus or Amsterdam via Eindhoven so both trips would involve a train transfer. Both train transfers would be about the same distance so are they likely to be the same price? Flights to Eindhoven (€25) are half the price of those to Reus.

Accommodation seems to be about the same in each city. We'll probably be staying in a hostel.

Is the cost of food, drink etc. much more in Amsterdam than Barcelona? If so, by roughly how much?

I have actually been to both and thought they were both kips but I must have been stuck in the mingin areas since everyone tells me they are lovely places. What should we do?
