[Eve] Eve - Question Assault II

I've settled in pretty well, especially thanks to a hefty financial leg up from some very helpful boardies. But there's a few things I need to get my head around before I'm happy.

1 - Could someone please explain how sensors/scanner/probes work? I got podded for the first time when a friend and I went exploring. The guy came out of no where and annihilated me. I messaged him afterwards saying that it was kind of mean to not even ransom my pod. His response was that the other two ships in the system could have been friends of mine and he didn't have time to risk it.

I, of course, hadn't seen these ships nor his, but clearly he had. What method could he have deployed to scan the entire system like that?

And what the hell is the story with the four different sensor types?

2 - Why is it that two pieces of technology that are almost identical can have a difference of millions between them?

I often see things where the only difference is a point or two of cpu or power grid usage, and yet one costs 5K and the other is three million. Am I missing something here?

3 - Where do I find rigs and what skills do I need for them?

4 - What can "shield emmisions systems" be used for? I got it at level 4 from character creation but the only modules I've found so far are shield energy transferers. Does it do anything else?

I'm sure theres more but I'll think more on it later.

Okay zillah m8, first off Local is your friend, its very much advisable when travelling in 0.0 and low sec to always keep an eye on local, move the actual window to a seperate place maybe the bottom right or something and re-size it as you see fit, also the scanner has been changed since the newest patch, but the basic directional scanner still works the same, best place i can think of for a tutorial on how to use it is youtube, search for eve scanning or something. . .

Make sure the attributes aren't slighty different also not just the fitting settings, and usually its because that little bit of extra cpu or powergrid can help,

As your a young character (same as myself) i wouldn't worry too much about them, at present the system for building them is kind of crap and i don't see many on the markets anywhere.

They are used for shield transporters afaik, which can be helpful in pvp if you want to use a ship for support, they could be used for other things but im not sure. :D

Local and bookmarks should be open in 0.0 space.

Local will give you a good idea of who is in the system. You can check them to see if they have negative status or if they belong to a pvp corp.

The bookmarks is handy as well. As your travelling to your location from where ever make a few bookmarks along the way.

These will drop you into empty areas in the system which can act as safe spots. You shouldn't spend too long in any safe spot though as you can be eventually found.

The warp to zero is helping out a lot at the moment :) I accidently bought 24 million of something I didn't need and it was in .2 space. Used a badger II to get it back.

    quick and dirty scanner tutorial

click the scanner button, change to the scanner tab.

change the angle to 15-25 degrees.
max out the range 99999999999999999 etc it will atuo adjust to max range.
point your view at a celestial object ie a stargate.
    press scan.
    lather rinse repeat.

Probes require a few skills and they are kind of pointless for someone of your characters age.
best advice for you is to stay in 0.6 or higher systems as concord patrol them.

i made a new character over the weekend, with an investment of 4 million from my main its flying a tech 2 fitted rifter. doesnt seem like much but it can put out about 400 damage per volley from the artillery and missiles.

my shields have yet to go below 70% on any mission.

these shield transfers are used to boost shields. you can see this happening alot on POS's after someone got them into siege mode or if someone just took a station they will boost the shields. or there nice to fit on a carrier as carriers cant realy fit any weapons.

Scanner doesn't work like that anymore. You need probes if you plan to find anything. It can't even find objects within a mission anymore.

As for the probes with the latest changes I can see a nerf coming eitehr to that or to missions. As it stands now there is an insane amount of griefing in core space as people can use probes to warp into peoples missions, stealing the mission item or aggroing everything and then warping out.

it was working as of last night. it doesnt give you a warp in point though, thats what the probes are for.

It will still scan, it just won't show you everything like it used to. For example I used to use it find hidden cargo rigs on missions but it won't do that anymore (although you can guess their location if you know the mission).

Because it won't show everything you need to use probes to find the juicy stuff now as well.

regards the sensor types: each race has a specific ship signature...namely grav lav mag and the other one.

local is your friend, observe, if you are not friendly with someone in local then regard them as hostile.

In terms of ransoming: I wouldnt ransom your pod, I couldnt be arsed and I would rather you lose implants etc than to gain a few million...also the more complicated it gets the better chance there is of it going tits up, so just blow up the pod and get it over with. I will however not pod you if you pay me, I dont have a code of conduct or whatever but I like to stick with my word.

    Froot,
    Armoured Assassins.
