My missus always goes on about this Little Mermaid movie she saw when she was a kid. Her mother taped it off RTE/cable in the 80's some time and they've been trying to find it ever since.

It is not a cartoon, an actual film. The only thing that stands out in her memory is that the Little Mermaid had blue hair and tht it followed the actual story line, not the disney one. In other words the mermaid died at the end...

I would appreciate any hints on the title of this film, I've tried everywhere!
