It took long enough, God knows. I might even consider switching from NTL now.

Channel 4 - NOW AVAILABLE ON SKY DIGITAL IN IRELAND

    Friday, 1 December 2006:

From Monday next, 4th December, Channel 4 will be available to all Sky digital customers throughout Ireland for the first time.

Channel 4 will occupy Position 142 on the electronic programming guide (EPG). More 4, the channel currently occupying position 142, will move to Position 189 with More 4 + 1 at position 190.

Welcoming the announcement, Delia Bushell, Managing Director of Sky Ireland, said

“We are delighted to welcome Channel 4 to the Sky digital platform in Ireland. The availability of this leading channel on Sky will further strengthen our service offering the widest range of choice and quality to viewers in Ireland”.

Rod Henwood, New Business Director at Channel 4 said: “We are delighted that by signing this agreement with Sky digital we are making Channel 4’s distinctive, quality programming available to even more viewers in Ireland.”

Not on the EPG. Not that I'm all that pushed (after all, it is, ITV) but BBC4 and BBC radio stations would be nice.

    Go to Sky News.
    Press red for interactive.
    Wait for it to load
    Remove viewing card

    Press backup

There will be an Error and EPG will relaod after a delay. DO NOT INSERT ANY CARD.

101, 102, 103 = UK Stations, UK EPG with all BBC Radio, Other ITV and BBC at end of EPG and CBeebies/CBBC daytime in Kids and BBC3/BBC4 in evening near start of EPG.

Irish EPG returns if you reinsert card.

Where is this from? I can't find it on any offical website.

Some additonal confirmation would be good. There have been unfounded statements before

Perhaps "Awful Scut" can give a reference to news site, press releases Skyor C4 site with this statement?

Time and time again some bright spark posts a thread along the lines of "I heard from a Sky Rep that..." some or another previously blocked channel will appear on the Irish EPG.

And time and time again these rumours are just that; rumours.

For the record, none of the Channel 4 versions are available when an Irish Sky box is manually tuned. Just the usual 08 - This channel is not available message.

Indeed watty, I could/should have mentioned that. I don't tend to count it as I reckon there's sod-all benefit from doing that for an FTA channel when I can click through to Other Channels and be watching it in the time when I'd still be card swapping. I reserve card swapping purely for C4 as there isn't an alternative.

Well the only think my research shows is that :

Delia Bushell, Managing Director of Sky Ireland = TRUE

Rod Henwood, New Business Director at Channel 4 = TRUE

This would be true, if the Press Release is real:
“We are delighted to welcome Channel 4 to the Sky digital platform in Ireland. The availability of this leading channel on Sky will further strengthen our service offering the widest range of choice and quality to viewers in Ireland”.

I guess we will have to wait and see if this turns out to be true. Hopefully this indeed will be the case, but its just a pity that they dont go the whole hog and go FTA.

I reserve card swapping purely for C4 as there isn't an alternative.

    Advantages:
:: Sometimes "Other channels" Erase themselves
:: "Other Channels" are PIN protected usually
:: Some people find it complicated to create the "other channels"
:: If the settings for BBC/ITV etc change the "Other channels" won't work
:: No EPG listings of programs other than Now/Next using "Other Channels"

    Disadvantages:
:: Very slow to change over as the Sky Digibox waits for info on Carousel
:: You might misplace your subscription card.

Also of course due to what SHOULD BE ILLEGAL (charging for recording even of FTA TV) the Sky+ and SkyHD will only record what is on EPG of your active subscription card. This is the MOST inquitious abuse of Sky's semi monopoly position but Sky can only be regulated by Ofcom not Comreg at all and Ofcom has consistantly refused to enforce fair regulation of Sky's charges & features to Broadcasters or Customers.

If Sky was operating in Germany they would be prosecuted.

Can I have some salt to go with my hat? :D

Channel 4 is now available on an Irish Sky card via Other Channels. At the time of writing it isn't on the EPG, but that must come soon I suspect.

On EPG around 10.35am 4th December in Irish Variety Mix Pack.
    142
    More4 moved to 189

If it doen't work, you don't have the Variety pack which includes the 4 irish channels, ABC1, paramount, More4, E4, Sky1,2,3 Living, UK Gold, UK Drama, Hallmark.

Something weird going on. Have upgraded to hd, while it was being installed it was pointed out that ch4 was now available. Worked until 9pm then "channel not available", tried again this morning at 7am working at 7.30 back to "not available" any ideas anyone? HD still not connected after 22hrs.
It might be of interest but it is no longer a requirement to take Sky+ and a premium channel to get HD, however a telephone line is (I got a jack extender from Satcure.co.uk).
If I can sort ch4 the aerial can go in the bin.

C4 on an Irish Sky subscription will have that message for some programmes on C4 until C4 sort out the rights for all their programmes
