    Scheduled maintenance - Thursday 7/12/06 21:45
Possible disruption to your broadband service
To enhance the quality of the eircom broadband service, we will be carrying out essential network maintenance on Thursday, 7th December 2006 between 21:45 and 04:45.

If you are an eircom broadband customer in one of the areas listed below, you may experience a 1 minute disruption to your broadband service.

    Entire Dsl Network
What might they be doing that would affect the entire DSL network?

I presume the entire DSL network means just that and includes all bitstream customers but maybe not.
BT and UTV don't have a mechanism for informing customers about outages. Don't know about Digiweb and the rest.

Haven't you heard? We'll all wake up the next day with 1Gbps up and down FTTH connections. Honest(*).

A perfect example of how customers have such a great choice of providers in this country

If you ask me, they are doing a firmware upgrade on all their DSLAMS, which would exactly match this sort of outage, which neccessitates a reboot of equipment staggered across a few hours.
