Does anyone still think he can recapture the form that's brought him over 100 goals for Madrid?
Capello Gives Slimmer Ronaldo Thumbs Up

Real Madrid’s Fabio Capello is reported to be delighted with the efforts made by number 9 Ronaldo to shed the extra kilos that had made him the butt of whaling jokes and had seen him slump out of favour at the White House.

The player has been showing a new-found discipline with eating – one of his great pleasures – and put his training into overdrive. The results speak for themselves as the Fenômeno has gone from 90kg to 87.5kg in the past week alone.

With Ronaldo getting back into a less rounded shape, Capello is set to reward the Brazilian with a place in the Merengue first eleven against Athletic de Bilbao, Dinamo Kiev and the all-important clash with an in-form Sevilla.

Capello is pleased that his sidelining of the forward has had the right knock-on effect as Ronaldo has gone from initial hurt to an acceptance that he really did need to shape up or ship out. The Coach wants to make it clear that there was no vendetta against the player: just tough love to get him back to where he’s supposed to be.

The Athletic de Bilbao match is slated to see another go at getting the Ronaldo-Van Nistelrooy axis firing on all four cylinders. With Ronaldo lighter and faster, Capello wants to turbocharge the transition from midfield to attack. The good news for Merengue fans is that Ronaldo’s weight loss is finally Madrid’s gain as the player is still sharpshooting with his customary accuracy.

A half-time substitute for Reyes, Ronaldo just scored a lovely equaliser against Bilbao so it's 1-1 with about 20 minutes remaining.

He showed great skill and composure to control Diarra's long pass and slot it past the keeper.

He also linked up well with Raul, Robinho and RVN, and has generally been very sharp.

Almost scored an amazing second goal but the keeper pulled out a great save!

Pleased for the guy. In his day he was a fantastic talent. It would be nice if he could recapture something that he has lost.
