Getting a portrait shetched

A friend of mine wants to get her parents a portrait of themselves done for their aniversary. 2 questions, Can an artist do this with pictures only? Whats the price range? Thanks in advance.:)

Hi there

You probably are sorted with this but ,yes you can do the painting /artwork from a photo but it really needsto be a well lit one.Prices from 400 to 2000 is the norm depending on size and medium.Give me a pm if you need any more help as I am an artist.

Depends who you ask. I do watercolor portraits from photos all the time, and I ask $150 per head for them. A sketch from pencil would be considerably less.
The point about needing well lit photos to work from is spot on.
