My AEG has been in Portlaoise mail centre since the 24th i.e. last friday.
    According to the tracking on
AnPost.ie
its in and out of customs. But the last record I have of it is in Portlaoise last friday, beyond that it doesn't exist. I'm going to ring AnPost later but have any of you got any info or a clue whats going on. Don't quote me on this but i think CrazyRabbits order was sent to Portlaoise aswell and it wasn't delivered either!
    WTF WTF WTF:confused:

From experience, you better get it quick or the crowd in port laois will send it back to sender, happened to me with a rifle scope this year, nightmare, and it cost me!.

Sounds like buisness as usual. My AEG was in customs for 8 days before it cleared. I wouldn't worry about not getting it.

The Customs guys seem to like playing with them for a few days before they send them on.

Customs can take ages to get anything done.

I ahd a gun at cutoms for weeks until they decided to give it to the local garda station to find out if it was below 1 joule or not.

Just today however, I revieced a call from Limerick customs saying that they have my gun and are looking for the price so that they can chage VAT, so hopefully I should be recieving it soon enough

Asking you the price? LOL tell them 1 Euro :D

I checked with AnPost. All international mail arrives in Portlaoise. It's normal.

It then goes to the northside or southside sorting centre depending on delievery address.

Ordered on 22nd, got it today. Delays in AnPost though since they lost it for a while. No VAT added.

Customs didn't take too long, though they ripped the packaging to bits.

they have a habbit of charging you a month or 2 down the line for import tax without telling you!

Just experienced the exact same thing with UPS. €40. I'll be avoiding them in future.

Wahoo - My AEG is in the local post office and my dear Mammy (God Bless Her Soul) is going to pick it up today. I'll be leaving college a little early today me thinks.
Oh Bother - €81.70 was the duty tax!

I told you you could get caught for duty!, was the gun still cheap?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭N.O.I.P.

81.70 Ouch man thats pretty steep, I'm sure this has been asked before but what did you order?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 398 ✭✭Ample Free ...?

I don't mind the tax too much. I was expecting it to be about €65. I got a Sig552 and a few extras, they cost €380 so I expected to pay a fair amount of tax. I just wasn't lucky enogh to get away with it.

I have the fortune / misfortune to be married to a customs officer , and when I asked her about the airsoft guns she said that they were still confiscating them if you brought them in your luggage, and when she asked some of her workmates they knew nothing about the legislation, so it would appear to be hit and miss you may be lucky and not have to pay duty, or you may have to go and state your case to get the irem

Does anyone know exactly what the rules are for this? Should we be taxed or not on airsoft guns & equipment? And if incorrectly taxed, who would we contact. Banzai mentions irem...who is that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 314 ✭✭BANZAI_RUNNER

sorry crazyrabbit, that was a typo , it should have been item, but if you feel the tax was incorrect then you need to contact the revenue commissioners customs and excise, and get them to re calculate the vat etc,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭N.O.I.P.

CrazyRabbit the rules are that any item imported from outside the EU are fair game for Tax except packages that cost under E40 and so are considered to be of negligible value there are also some exceptions for Gifts and items bought by VAT registered companies, or such is my understanding of the law. Getting taxed sucks but the vast majority of equipment has been coming through without being taxed so we can't really complain.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,659 ✭✭✭CrazyRabbit

If anyone is interested, I checked out the whole customs thingy. It's like N.O.I.P said (it's frustrating how he's always right) :D

Attached are the official docs on goods bought over the internet and imported.

Just because you believe yourself to be right all the time in that head of yours, doesn't mean it actually has any bearing in reality. ;)

Essentially calculate the cost of the package and posting and then get 21% of that and add it on. Thats roughly how much the overall cost will be.

Anyone know why they charge VAT on the postage too? I always thought that was a bit on the unfair side.

That will effectively double the cost of the tax on my mp5 now  if it gets taxed that is

What are the specs of that mp5? I have a mate who's interested in one. Although, I'll probabaly end up pointing him to Marui. Jesus, their mp5 is only $179! Not bad

Well in its stock form its well over a joule so another 25$ to downgrade that, Its ROF isnt excellent according to gunner [hes so honost :) ]its got great externals and as good internals as china have ever produced, Its not even on his site yet so not to much is known about it, I just bit the bullet ;) , They have a cheaper cyma mp5 which is known to be a great reliable gun ,Rof is only 9-10 rounds a second though and its stock barrel would be better of being replaced but its a good gun. Mine was e123 delivered includind downgrade and metal bushings while the Cyma could be as low as 80e via airmail

Because id have a ****load of travelling to do 1st and might miss two days of work cos of the messed up hours i do.
