Java IDE and SQL Server

Hey,

Just need a little help to set up the environment to develop a little test application.
I want to develop a little standard Java application.
Couple of text inputs, drop down boxes, them given user input query a database and return a result set to the user. Just a simple program.

I'm hoping to get this done on my laptop.
I'll need a Java editor and some form of free SQL server.
I think I have the Java Runtime environment installed.

Can anyone point in the right way to getting the and editor and a SQL server.

It's unclear whether you mean a web app, or a GUI. Either way ...

Microsoft SQl Server 2005 Express is free. Oracle also have a free version.

And you'll want the Java SDK, not just the JRE

Using OracleXE you might want a little database class like this with the ojdbc jar on your classpath.

You can use conn to do **** like create statements and get result sets using stmt and rs
