seagate 320 gb

    hello everyone i just bought a external HD seagate 320 gb but when i plug it to the pc only says 298GB why is that???
    i also formated the drive from fat 32 to ntfs

    thank you for your help

    Hard drive maker define a gig as a 1000 megabytes whereas you PC see a gig as 1024 megabytes, multiply the 320 by 24 bytes and theres the missing space, plus a bit lost due to formatting.
    Simplified but I hope this helps.

    i just finnished formating the HD and i have now 319 something GB.
    NTFS type is alot better then fat32.

    Its a flagrant misadvertising that I think we need to picket... now, do seagate have a HQ in Ireland?
