I haven't used either of these types, although from what I've heard Concept 2 are pretty much out in front, although expensive, you might pick up a good 2nd hand one.
Again I'm no expert and have been known to fall for the lure of overpriced, overmarketed products :D

OP have you tried using either of those machines? Its definately necessary to try before you buy. personally I would make sure the handle was attached with a chain, not a ropey thing like I've seen on some home machines.

was going to suggest the concept2 as well, although it is probably very expensive. But its sooo good! :D Well by that I mean it does what you need it to do, and does it well. Imo a rowing machine is not a very complicated piece of kit, so go for something solid and reliable not something with the latest air cushioning water filled upside down row technology. And also check out any of the claims made about a machine, if the manufactuer says that the new model is the best, burns 10% more calories than any other, whatever, make sure you know that everything claimed about the machine is fact, so later you can't blame the tools!

Wow long post, I'll do anything to avoid an essay I guess... Good luck with finding a machine you like.
