Since there is a difference of opinion, I'll try the same shot in both, and see who likes what.

definitely the colour, beautiful shot, the colours just SCREAM safari, black and white IMO makes it that slight bit harder to focus on the image, the reeds and fur and are a bit mish mashed in the bandw, the colour image just his you as wow and everything is spot on right off.

I agree with Melek. Suberb shot, especially the colour version.

Great shot (pitty about the out of focus grass on the right hand side, but that is just a small problem).

The colour works a lot better than the B&W, thought the B&W could probably be improved greatly by messing around with levels and stuff (increase contrast, bring out the blacks and shadows etc)

How far way were you? What lense did you use?

    Thanks guys!

I guess about 30 to 40 feet away. It was the ef 400/f4 DO IS lens, with a 1.4 extender on a 1dMII (1.3 crop factor). Luckily it was a semi-overcast day so I did'nt have too much trouble with shadows. It was getting darker and lighter all the time, so I had the ISO up at 640. This shot ended up at 1/4000 of a second (I usually use AV mode), so It could have been taken at a lower ISO, but it did'nt matter.

I had no filters for the 400, but I'd use a polarisor (sp?) next time.

colour version is very nice. perhaps a bit of curves in Lab colour mode to really make it pop a bit more?
